Hidden Gems: Meet Jody Wilson of Giddy Up Jo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jody Wilson. 

Hi Jody, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started Giddy Up Jo Boutique because people would ask where I got my outfits and always like what I was wearing. My favorite thing to do is put an outfit together and have a friend or customer feel beautiful wearing it. That’s where I get my happiness is seeing other ladies shine their light. The right clothes can lift your spirits and make you feel like a new person! When I was young, I used to dream of outfits, and then when I woke up, I’d be mad that I didn’t have that outfit in real life! So, I thought, maybe I could have my own shop! But then I doubted myself and worried I would not be successful at it. We are our own worst critics and doubt is a big dream killer. But something kept telling me, just try anyways! So I did! 

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Definitely not. When I first had my idea, I didn’t know the first thing about getting licenses and how/where to source clothing- and doing taxes every month. It definitely took a lot of research and teaching myself. Then when I finally had everything in place, I would look at all the competition and other amazing boutiques. And I thought, “I’m not ready.” So, I just waited for about 5 months! I wish I would have tried and learned through my mistakes. But then that January, I made myself start posting and getting the shop’s name out there. I’ve had thousands of orders now and customers from different countries such as Germany and France. I wish I could go back and believe in myself more. 

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Giddy Up Jo?
Giddy Up Jo was a dream of mine that I’ve always had for years. I never thought I could do it, but one day I tried anyways! It amazes me what God has done. I always want our customers to feel absolutely amazing and so happy with their outfits. That’s what Giddy Up Jo is all about. 

My favorite part about owning this business has been the relationships I’ve created with customers. I’m blessed to have met the sweetest and kindest girls; they really are not customers but truly wonderful friends. When I get to see them happy in their outfits, that’s what makes me proud, I love seeing them shining their light. I encourage you to follow your dreams, and always wear what makes you happy! 

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
5-10 years from now I see Giddy Up Jo having even cuter outfits! Every year I want to learn from my customers and get better and better. That’s what inspires me. I see a big focus on the shop going more online because that’s where the majority of sales come from. I would love for every couple of months to have trail rides for my customers. As a lot of them love horses. I picture us talking and laughing and having s’mores afterwards. I know so many of their life stories and their hurts, pains, and happy times too. We’re all just walking each other home. Giddy Up Jo girls know how to dress amazing and they are absolutely beautiful. But what I have found with so many of them is the prettiest thing about them are their hearts. That’s what makes them beyond special.
