Hidden Gems: Meet John Moore of Jam’s Custom Lighting & Electronics

Today we’d like to introduce you to John Moore.

Hi John, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My story is really about a lifelong obsession with how things work. For over 20 years, I’ve been fascinated by the intricate electronics in cars and motorcycles. I didn’t just want to know how to install a new radio; I wanted to understand the “why” behind the system. That curiosity led me to pursue professional certification and eventually start my own business, [JAM’s Custom Lighting & Electronics], right here in Castalian Springs.

The road to where I am today hasn’t always been a straight path. One of the biggest challenges I face is seeing the aftermath of “quick-fix” jobs that leave vehicles in unsafe conditions. I’ve made it my mission to be the person who does things the right way, even if it takes longer. I’ve learned that there are no shortcuts when it comes to the safety and reliability of someone’s vehicle. I’m firm about using only the best materials because I believe my neighbors in Nashville deserve work that actually lasts.

At JAM’s, I get to solve unique puzzles every day. Whether it’s helping our local police departments with the lighting they need to stay safe on the job, or upgrading a family’s boat for a better weekend on the water, my goal is peak performance. I’ve worked on everything from classic Ford trucks with premium sound systems to high-performance Harley-Davidsons, always focusing on a “bulletproof” build that won’t let the owner down.
To me, success isn’t about how many vehicles I can get through the door in a day. It’s about the trust I build with my clients. I want to be known as the local expert you can count on to handle your most complex projects with honesty and heart.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?

As you know, we’re big fans of Jam’s Custom Lighting & Electronics. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
For over 20 years, my focus has been on mastering the “why” behind mobile electrical systems. This obsession with technical integrity led me to earn my MECP (Mobile Electronics Certified Professional) certification and eventually open [JAM’s Custom Lighting & Electronics] in Castalian Springs. My journey has been about choosing the “bulletproof” path—avoiding dangerous budget shortcuts like Copper Clad Aluminum (CCA) wiring and instead using top-tier materials that ensure safety and long-term reliability. Today, my business serves as a local alternative to high-volume corporate shops, where we treat every build like a surgical operation. [1, 2, 3, 4]

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
My advice for networking and finding a mentor centers on authenticity and specialized industry involvement. In the Nashville area, I’ve found that the best connections come from showing up in the spaces where your specific craft is happening rather than just attending generic mixers.
