Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Herod.
Hi Jonathan, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Army Retiree Vet of 21 years. Served as Nutrition Care Extender of a Dietician. 18 out of the 21 years, I also was the rehabilitation/Master Fitness trainer to help get soldiers redeployable for certain mission requirements. Served four tours in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, and Bosnia… Taught numerous sessions in fitness and also nutrition to aid for maximum recovery and overall fitness sustainment.
After retiring in 2017, decided to pursue the passion I’ve always had in the military and apply it to the civilian world and opened a Fitness Boot Camp in Donelson in March of 2017. After a year of being there, the Donelson Plaza had changes due to the library coming and I had to move to Hermitage 42 days later. Through the ordeal, my members, AKA my FitFamily supported me throughout the transition and continued to have me as their coach/trainer and later grew to a whopping 130 members! I support area schools, i.e. Two Rivers Middle School for the homeless kids and provide essential vitamins for the lending closet operated by Nicole Valentine. I guess in a nutshell, I have a passion for people FIRST and because of that, fitness and nutrition is the bipartisan. I am married of three years with a beautiful son. I am born and raised from Dallas, TX and have been to over 18 countries and lived in six states.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road is never smooth for business owners. The move from Donelson was a huge impact and of course last year during the pandemic, having to close down after opening my second location in Nashville off of Trousdale drive and then permanently closing that second location in August was a major impact to the community I was serving in that area. However, with struggles comes great reward and I the FitFam we have established in Hermitage, the support of our community has kept this location up and running and has additions everyday who are wanting to change their lives and live a healthier lifestyle.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We are a 30 minute High Intensity Interval Training facility that focuses on “fat loss” not weight loss. We offer six sessions a day, four mornings, 530/630/815/1145 and two evenings, 430/530pm and have two sessions on Saturdays 8am/9am. We modify to fitness levels is what we PRIDE ourselves on. WE TURN NO ONE AWAY. If you are able to breathe then we can handle the rest. Our ages range from 18 to 73, and trust me, the 73 can outperform most, lol.
We have different challenges throughout the year that empower our members of our facility.
We provide our own line of NATURAL ORGANIC, sugar-free, alcohol sugar free supplements and provide fitness trackers called Myzone to better challenge each and every individual as well monitor their fitness during a workout.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice for those starting out is to FIRST, see if it’s your time. Don’t make a commitment like this if you are not ready to make those lifestyle changes. It’s HARD but VERY doable. I wish I had known how to be a community leader when I first started, but after being mentored by a number of individuals around, I feel I can better serve my community!
