Hidden Gems: Meet Katie Talbot of Gold Lion Studios

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Talbot

Hi katie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I began pursuing singing and acting at the age of 18, then moved out to LA with the Cyrus family in 2008 to help Miley and her family. Being around the top of Disney and record label heads, I learned very quickly how the entertainment industry worked. I was signed to a small start up label that ended up going nowhere, so I began working with a development firm in studio city working with a teen girl group. I taught their vocals, worked on photo shoots and worked with them on their acting as well. I then started teaching Noah Cyrus voice lessons and realized my love for being the coach vs being the artist. In 2012 I moved back to Nashville and trained to be a vocal coach with singing success in 2013. I worked off music row with the team until 2017 where I then branched off into my own work with vocals, artist development and touring with my clients. I spent 3 years building the Vocal Lab Collective on YouTube with a best friend and now I run Gold Lion Studios with my husband who produces and writes. We have clients all over the country and are able to plug in with some of the best writers in Nashville to create the best songs for our clients. From country, to indie pop, k-pop and even R&B, we cover all genres. Our studio is a full on development and production business. We help the artist navigate their sound, find their style, counsel on release plan, introduce them to industry connections while encouraging them to be true to who they are as an artist and a person.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No road is a smooth one. If it were, we’d all be on the same one. I was a yes person in my 20s, where I decided to say yes to almost every opportunity I could do. This gave me permission to learn from a vast amount of mentors while also making some mistakes along the way. The music industry is ever evolving, and so if you let yourself stay in a function that worked 5 years ago, then you’ll find yourself swimming up stream. So keeping the mindset a set ahead of the rest is quite a lot. As well as we have set our business as an independent, and anyone knows, the independents have to work the hardest to keep up;)

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Gold Lion Studios ?
My husband spent a decade touring all over the world with country artists and even recording his own records over seas when he and his brother had a band. While he was touring, I was vocal coaching and working on artist development in Nashville with my clients. After working together yet different jobs, we decided to start a development monthly program for artists where we dive deep with them in tracks, vocals, social media, release and really everything that goes into artistry and release. After doing this for the last 2 years, we finally came up with an actual name for our farmhouse studio. Gold Lion Studios. We are very proud to help singers elevate their songs and work with the best writers, mastering and even photographers for the artist. We’ve created a one stop shop where the singer gets full production, vocal lessons, vocal production, photos, release plan, social media content and writes.
