Hidden Gems: Meet Lauren Baumgarten of Her Worth Co

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Baumgarten.

Lauren, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I began my career in Nashville after graduating from Belmont University with a degree in International Business. After college, I worked with several local companies in the corporate world, managing international accounts and learning skills that still serve me today. While the work was valuable, I often found myself feeling disconnected from it and I was aware that it wasn’t where I wanted to stay long-term.

During that time, I was also in counseling myself. Through my own experience as a client, I became increasingly interested in mental health. I noticed that in my free time I was naturally drawn to books, podcasts, and conversations about mental health. Over time, that curiosity turned into a bigger question: What if this could be the work I do every day?

In 2020, I decided to go back to school and pursue my master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Trevecca Nazarene University. I began seeing clients as an intern in 2021 and have had experience interning/working at two different group practices, supporting teens, families, couples, and individuals. Those experiences were formative and helped me understand the kind of therapist I wanted to be.

What became clear to me along the way was that my passion has consistently centered on supporting women who are capable and high-functioning on the outside but quietly carry anxiety, self-doubt, or the pressure to hold everything together. Her Worth Co grew out of that clarity. It was created as a space where women can slow down, make sense of their stories, and begin to relate to themselves with more compassion. At its core, the work is about helping women reconnect with a sense of worth that isn’t dependent on productivity, perfection, or pleasing others.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Early on, there was a steep learning curve during my internship and first years as a therapist. Moving from training into real clinical work required patience, guidance from supervisors, peers, and mentors, and a willingness to keep learning. That learning hasn’t stopped. I continue to learn from my clients every day, and that ongoing growth has been central to becoming a more thoughtful and attuned therapist.

More recently, becoming a mother brought another season of growth. I gave birth to my daughter in November of 2024, which led me to rethink my schedule, priorities, and pace. After returning from maternity leave, I remained at my group practice in Nashville before starting my private practice in September of 2025. Launching Her Worth Co has involved ongoing learning, particularly around building something sustainable, while staying clear that my most important work is being a mother to my daughter.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Her Worth Co is a therapy practice dedicated to working with adult women who often appear capable and high-functioning on the outside, yet quietly struggle with anxiety, self-doubt, people-pleasing, or a harsh inner critic. Much of the work centers on helping clients understand how past experiences and early relationships continue to shape the way they relate to themselves, their emotions, and others.

At Her Worth Co, I work collaboratively with women to help them slow down, reflect on their experiences, and explore patterns that may be contributing to stress, anxiety, or feeling stuck. Therapy often includes paying closer attention to thoughts, emotions, and reactions, as well as gently exploring where certain ways of coping may have come from and how they show up day to day.

Many clients share that this process helps them better understand themselves, and my hope is that they leave sessions feeling a little more understood, supported, and compassionate toward themselves than when they arrived.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I believe in taking risks when something no longer feels aligned, even if the next step isn’t fully clear. Leaving a stable career in business to return to school for counseling was a significant risk, especially without a clear roadmap, but it felt important to me to move toward work that felt more meaningful.

Starting a private practice was another step into the unknown. For me, risk isn’t about impulsive leaps, but about making thoughtful decisions that align with values.
