Hidden Gems: Meet Lauren Smith of Olive + Oak Charcuterie

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Smith.

Hi Lauren, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
When I graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 2019, I had an overwhelming drive to find my purpose and a job that felt right. I knew I had a creative soul but couldn’t quite place where that would lead me until I discovered my passion for charcuterie.

What started as a fun idea to create memorable experiences with friends and family quickly turned into something much bigger. I launched my business is September of 2020 with no idea where to start and what to expect. With the overwhelming support from friends, family, and the community as a whole-my cheese dream quickly came to life.

I started out crafting smaller charcuterie boards and boxes and as I felt more and more confident and creative, I really dove into the wedding and event industry. I have always had a love for weddings and having a business that allows me to be a part of someone’s special day is the best feeling.

I feel so grateful for all the love and support I have received and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for Olive + Oak Charcuterie!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Having no prior experience running all aspects of a small business, I had to go through the process of trial and error to figure out what works best for me and how to manage it all. I have such an appreciation for small businesses because you really have to give it your all and then some.

For the most part, Olive + Oak is a one-man-show and it can be tough sometimes. I am the owner, marketing manager, accountant, customers relations manager, and more- all in one!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I curate custom charcuterie boards, boxes, and grazing tables for all occasions. I specialize in wedding and event grazing tables!

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?

Grazing tables are completely custom and truly a work of art. I never have a plan for my tables other than the ingredients used. Each table is completely
unique and different from the last so I am always pleasantly surprised at the final product.
