Hidden Gems: Meet Levert Jackson of Gray Fox Bar & Lounge

Today we’d like to introduce you to Levert Jackson.

Hi Levert, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey as a business owner began over 20 years ago, long before Gray Fox Bar ever opened its doors. Over the years, I’ve built, managed, and grown multiple businesses — each one teaching me something new about leadership, perseverance, and the value of community.

I’ve worn many hats throughout my life — from serving in the military, to working as a police officer, and later becoming a regional manager responsible for leading teams and operations on a large scale. Each role shaped the way I approach business today: with discipline, accountability, and a deep respect for people. Those experiences taught me how to stay calm under pressure, lead with integrity, and always find solutions — lessons that translate directly into entrepreneurship.

When I founded Gray Fox Bar, I wanted to create more than just another nightlife spot. My goal was to build a place that truly represented connection, culture, and community — a space where people could relax, have fun, and feel valued. I poured all of my experience into it — from understanding team structure and customer psychology to branding, marketing, and event strategy. Every decision was intentional, every detail mattered.

As a result, Gray Fox became a reflection of everything I’ve learned over two decades: how to build a business from the ground up, how to develop a strong and loyal team, and how to give back to the community that supports you. From our signature drinks and themed nights to events like Kids Line Dancing Day, my vision has always been to combine entertainment with purpose — creating moments that bring people together.

Looking back, I’m proud of how far this journey has come — from soldier, officer, and manager to entrepreneur and community leader. And looking ahead, I’m just as motivated as ever to keep building experiences that make people smile, connect, and feel at home.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road — but I believe the challenges are what shape great leaders. Every stage of my journey came with its own set of obstacles, from learning how to balance structure and creativity, to managing people, to keeping a business thriving through unpredictable times.

Coming from a military and law enforcement background, I was trained to adapt quickly and lead under pressure — but entrepreneurship brings a different kind of challenge. There’s no rulebook. You have to trust your instincts, make tough decisions, and sometimes take risks without knowing how things will play out. Early on, I faced the same struggles many business owners do: building the right team, managing finances, developing consistent systems, and creating a brand that people connect with.

There were moments of doubt, long nights, and lessons learned the hard way. But those experiences became the foundation of my success. I learned the importance of patience, preparation, and surrounding myself with people who share the same vision.

In the bar industry specifically, it’s about constantly evolving — staying relevant, creating experiences that stand out, and adapting to what people want. That takes resilience and the ability to pivot fast when challenges come your way.

So no, it hasn’t been a smooth road — but I wouldn’t change it. Every challenge sharpened my mindset, strengthened my leadership, and reinforced why I do what I do. The road might not have been easy, but it’s been worth every mile.

As you know, we’re big fans of Gray Fox Bar & Lounge. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Gray Fox Bar is all about creating experiences, not just serving drinks. We’re known for being a place where people can come together, feel at home, and have a great time, whether it’s karaoke night, line dancing, or one of our signature theme events. What really sets us apart is that we focus on connection and atmosphere as much as we do on the cocktails.

We’ve built a brand that’s not only fun and vibrant but also community-centered. We’ve hosted everything from family-friendly events like Kids Line Dancing Day, to themed parties, open-format music nights, and creative experiences like our Strawberry Hennessy Martini or Lemon Drop Martini. Drinks that have become a signature part of the Gray Fox identity.

What makes Gray Fox special is that it’s not just a bar, it’s a reflection of everything I’ve learned over my career about leadership, hospitality, and people. My goal was to create a space that welcomes everyone, where people can unwind after a long week, celebrate milestones, and feel like they belong.

I’m especially proud of the brand culture we’ve created one built on respect, creativity, and genuine care for our customers and staff. From the way our team greets guests to the energy on a Friday night, everything about Gray Fox is intentional.

I want customers to know that Gray Fox isn’t just a place to grab a drink, it’s a place to make memories. Whether you’re coming out for karaoke, celebrating with friends, or trying something new from our menu, we’re here to make sure every experience feels like something worth coming back for.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was always curious, the kind of kid who believed there was more out there to explore, more to learn, and more to become. I didn’t grow up with a lot, but what I did have was a strong sense of determination and a belief that limitations didn’t have to define me.

I was disciplined early on, which probably came from being raised to value hard work, respect, and responsibility. But I also had a creative side. I was always thinking about how things could be done differently or better. Whether it was organizing something in the neighborhood or finding new ways to make things work, I loved taking ideas and turning them into action.

Even back then, I had this vision of exploring possibilities beyond what was in front of me. I didn’t know exactly where life would take me — through the military, law enforcement, business, and now entrepreneurship but I knew I wanted to make an impact wherever I went.

I’ve always been grounded and humble in how I move, but driven when it comes to my goals. I was the type to listen first, observe, and then execute with precision. That mindset carried into my adult life to lead, build, and create with purpose.

Looking back, I think that balance between humility and vision has been the key to everything I’ve accomplished. I never stop being grateful for where I started, but I never stop reaching for what’s possible either.
