Today we’d like to introduce you to Mac Huffington.
Hi Mac, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I came to Nashville from Chicago for school. I found LGBTQ people and its nightlife. Then I discovered Nashville Pride, known then as Our Pride Encompasses Nashville. I quickly fell in love with the Organization and the work it wanted to do for the Community. “Pride was starting, so I went to a meeting and have been hooked ever since. I love Nashville Pride and our Community and everything it has grown to be.” Now, as President of Nashville Pride, I get to continue this service in a bigger leadership role for the Organization. I get to continue serving and supporting the Community in every possible way. I love what I do. I have enjoyed spending years giving all my passion and dedication to the Pride Organization and the Nashville Community.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been a struggle but one I felt worth wild. I have three strikes against me in any field. I am Black, Female, and Lesbian.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
“Mac Productions is a unique entertainment production company. We are an equal opportunity company that is always searching for a variety of diverse people to join our production team! We’re always searching for a diverse variety of people to participate in future endeavors. We have promoted all types of impersonators, comedians, live singers, spoken word, rappers, dancers, and more,” Huffington states. Mac Productions focuses on discovering innovative and creative talent and specializes in producing show performances and pageantry. Mac Productions came about due to the lack of representation of Male Impersonators’ Divas in the Drag Industry. The drag scene in the 90s wasn’t very geared towards the drag kings but more towards the drag queens, which is why the Mr. Esquire pageant came to be created. Since its founding in 1997, it has become one of the longest-standing premier pageants in the Southeastern region. Added it after the Ms. and Mr. Nashville Pride Pageant, which started in 1996. Over the 20+ years, drag kings and king pageants’ popularity has grown tremendously.
Also, part of Mac productions for 16 years is the Ms. Tennessee Diamond Diva Pageant for femme girls, now called Divas. It “continues to represent the production company’s new focus on discovering, developing and promoting innovative feminine and sexy, creative talent,” Huffington explains. These entertainers have performed at events such as The Tennessee Continental and Continental Plus Pageants. Also, other pageants such as the Tennessee US of A Pageant, Ms. Kentucky USA, Ms. Grand Diva Pageant, MR. U S Of A, Mr. Southern States US of A Pageant, Glamour City Pageants, and many more. They have also performed in several pride and local pageants in various states and cities, including Canada. This exposes the drag and pageant industries and promotes validity and acceptance. It also helps people enjoy themselves doing what they love.
