Hidden Gems: Meet Madison Holmes of Madison’s Virtual Magic, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Madison Holmes

Madison, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
A few years ago, I found myself stuck in a 9-5 job I absolutely hated. I was working in a room with no windows, feeling trapped and unfulfilled. I knew I needed a change, but I wasn’t sure how to make it happen. Then, I stumbled upon the world of virtual assistants and social media marketing online, and something clicked. This could be my way out—my chance to find freedom and flexibility, and maybe even make a real impact.

It took me about six months to gather the courage to take the leap (which, looking back, is one of my biggest regrets—if you have a dream, just start!). But one day, I reached my breaking point. I realized that nothing was going to change if I didn’t make the first move. So, I did. I posted on Instagram, advertising my services, even though I had little idea what I was doing. But I knew doing something was better than doing nothing.

I set up a link for people to book calls with me and started showing up online every day. I posted stories, made reels, interacted with others—I just put myself out there. And after about two weeks, it paid off. Someone booked an info call with me, and I was so excited—and nervous! I had never led a Zoom meeting before, but I pulled together everything I could find online to prep for it, and to my surprise, the call went great. I landed my first client.

Not long after, my client referred me to a colleague, and my business started to grow. Within a couple of months, I was juggling late-night calls and weekend work while still holding down my day job. It was exhausting, but I loved it. Eventually, I had five clients and knew it was time to go part-time with my business. I quit my full-time job and picked up nannying to supplement my income while I built my client base.

Fast forward three years, and I’m now running my business full-time, having helped over 30 small businesses with their marketing. I’ve fallen in love with this work so much that I recently finished my master’s in marketing to serve my clients even better. What started as a leap of faith has grown into something bigger than I could’ve imagined. Now, I specialize in social media management, blogging, email marketing, website updates, and more.

Looking back, I’m so glad I took that first step.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being your own boss is both exciting and daunting at the same time. One of the biggest challenges is knowing you can’t rely on a steady paycheck. You have to hustle for every client and be responsible for generating your own income, which can be stressful. There’s no “clocking out” at 5 p.m. and leaving work behind.

When you run your own business, you quickly become a jack of all trades—you’re the content creator, bookkeeper, customer service rep, and everything in between. Part of me thrives on the excitement and the pride of knowing this business is 100% mine, but I’d be lying if I said it didn’t get exhausting at times.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is the importance of cultivating a healthy work-life balance and setting boundaries. It’s easy to overwork yourself when you’re trying to grow a business, but I’ve realized that setting boundaries with both myself and my clients is key to avoiding burnout. Finding that balance is a constant work in progress.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My business specializes in social media and marketing services, and I offer a range of support depending on what my clients need. This can include social media marketing, email campaigns, creating landing pages for new offers, providing admin support for webinars and virtual events, designing client handouts or graphics, writing blogs to drive traffic, creating Instagram post templates, developing brand guides, and more.

What really sets me apart is my focus on storytelling. I don’t just create content; I work to understand my clients’ audience and their needs. This allows me to create marketing materials that resonate on a deeper level. You have to put yourself in the shoes of your clients’ customers and lead with the transformation their products or services offer. Many of my clients provide life-changing services—like eating disorder dietitians, therapists, and ADHD coaches/support professionals—and I’m committed to ensuring that their messaging reflects that. We aren’t going to do that with cookie-cutter content or boring graphics.

I’m most proud of how intentional I am about getting to know my clients and their brands. It’s not just about putting content out there; it’s about crafting messaging and visuals that truly connect with people. I want my clients to feel confident that when they work with me their story is being told in the most impactful way possible.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
One of my favorite childhood memories is playing fairies in the woods with my best friend. We’d spend hours outside, searching for trees where they might live and imagining we’d spotted one hiding under a leaf. I can still picture those moments so clearly, and even today, I find myself looking for “fairy homes” when I’m out in nature. It’s a fun way to reconnect with my inner child and keep that sense of play alive.
