Today we’d like to introduce you to Maricela Gama.
Hi Maricela, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am from Michoacan Mexico and that I have lived here in Nashville for 20 years and that, after getting divorced, I started this business. I got divorced and sold my house. My brother, who did screen printing with 20 years of experience, told me that with part of the money from the sale of the house, we could buy a machine and that he would make the t-shirts, just like he worked at his job.
I was in a Hispanic radio for 10 years people knew me as La Peke, so I gave it my radio nickname, Peke Custon Designs. In the middle of the pandemic, I wanted to rent a place in Nolensville, the heart of the Latino community.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
While the pandemic had us terrified, I just put my mind to work, (which things happen for a reason), and if later my brother left us and my daughter, who was always with him, told me, Mom, let me see if I can do it and Sara, only 15 years old, began to paint the shirts.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We specialize in design, screen printing, embroidery, DTF, vinyl for cars and t-shirts, and uniforms for schools, companies, etc.
We all have different ways of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success comes after a lot of learning and losing. The experience of each mistake and success makes one succeed in every area of one’s life.
At this moment, I see my daughters on their way to pursue their dreams. I think I am very close. to achieve success. Success is when you see the fruits of your effort and work.
