Hidden Gems: Meet Marteka Lee of Just Mind Your Biz LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marteka Lee.

Marteka Lee

Hi Marteka, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
In 2017, my partner and I started our first business. We were eager and worked tirelessly to build relationships with our clients, quickly growing our clientele to include contracts with dealerships and a strong recurring customer base. However, while we were focused on serving our clients, we became overextended on costs and fell behind on state tax filing and reporting requirements. Ultimately, we made the difficult decision to close the business. That experience pushed me to learn more about taxes and business compliance. I was hired and trained by an IRS-funded program through United Way, where I worked as a tax site manager. I discovered a passion for teaching individuals and small business owners about tax law and how to navigate tax forms. When funding for the program decreased, I launched my own tax firm, JP Tax Pro, with the mission of empowering others through education.

Through JP Tax Pro, I built strong relationships with my clients, driven by my desire to protect them from fraudulent tax preparers who took advantage of their lack of knowledge. I made it a priority to educate them on tax laws, compliance deadlines, and entity formation. Without even realizing it, I had become a trusted advisor and business consultant. My clients’ encouragement led me to officially launch Just Mind Your Biz LLC in 2023. While running JP Tax Pro, I also worked as a Sales Operations Analyst in the corporate world, writing SQL codes to extract and analyze large data sets. I combined my analytical skills, sales operations expertise, and business reporting knowledge to help entrepreneurs build sustainable businesses. The best part of my journey is witnessing the growth of my clients and being a part of their success. I am passionate about my commitment to small businesses, especially Black-owned businesses, and I look forward to the impact Just Mind Your Biz LLC will continue to make.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Entrepreneurship is hard in general. I am a mom of a 9-year-old son, full-time Sr. Sales Operations Analyst, business woman, and I serve my community through my non-profit, From Our Family to Yours. It can be challenging to juggle multiple responsibilities at once, and if I’m not careful, important tasks are neglected. One of the biggest challenges in my business career was planning the inaugural No Gatekeeping Entrepreneur Summit that was held on February 1, 2025. This event was a movement to encourage business owners to support each other as a community by openly sharing knowledge and access to opportunities with each other. I coined the phrase “No Gatekeeping” to promote collaboration over competition. It was difficult to plan such a large event for the first time with a small team and a small budget, but my clients and community of fellow entrepreneurs kept me encouraged and the event was a huge success. Entrepreneurship is meant to be a challenge, and it makes overcoming the obstacles even more rewarding.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Just Mind Your Biz LLC is a consulting firm dedicated to empowering small business owners with the knowledge, tools, and strategies to build sustainable businesses. We specialize in business consulting, tax education, compliance reporting, and operational efficiency. What sets us apart is our No Gatekeeping community, where we prioritize collaboration over competition by openly sharing information, resources, and access to opportunities. My proudest achievement is the No Gatekeeping Entrepreneur Summit which was sponsored by Just Mind Your Biz in partnership with AT&T. It was not only a huge success, but it has been requested to become an annual event. Through our brand, we strive to create a supportive ecosystem that helps entrepreneurs navigate business challenges, grow their ventures, and thrive in their industries.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
People can work with us, collaborate with us, or support us by following us on social media, subscribing and staying tuned to our podcast “Business Vibes Only,” and/or becoming a sponsor for next year’s No Gatekeeping Entrepreneur Summit. Most importantly, they can support us by believing in the movement, “No Gatekeeping,” and supporting local Black-owned businesses.
