Hidden Gems: Meet Matthew Keller of Sunshine’s Adventures

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew Keller.

Matthew, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
As a Nashville local who loves the outdoors, an opportunity was waiting to emerge as our city grew. With the passing of my sister when we were teenagers, life taught me it’s too short to waste. Making treasured memories is my passion. Not just for my loved ones or myself, but helping people create theirs too. Once I became a father, my focus was to build a business that allows me to focus on our family but also be able to provide for them and bring them into the business as they grew older. We are a paddling family and the river is the setting to many of our own treasured memories. This was why I decided to help our guests do the same, create their next treasured memory! We are family run, family fun and we’ve been proud to help many families, local and visiting ride the river here in Nashville!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road traveled in our endeavor as Nashville’s river tubing operation has been an adventurous one. Similarly to the river, it has had sections that ran smooth enough to let you reset for the next obstacle that’s coming but be ready to get wet. The largest obstacle has been adjusting to new rules being implemented at the river for outfitters and the abundance of growth in Nashville that has created a lack of options for guests to park their vehicles while on the water. But with collaborative efforts I’ve made with other local businesses to offer ride, limousine, and shuttle bus services to and from the river, we have been able to successfully manage that issue while also connecting our guests to other local business owners, making the guests experience even better and our local economy thrive.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Sunshine’s Adventures?
Sunshine’s Adventures is Nashville’s river tubing company, just 20 miles west of downtown on the Harpeth River! Operating for nearly a decade, we’ve been thankful to help many families from all over the world create their next treasured memories. Using class 3 white water rated river tubes, complete with seat back rests, cup holders, custom made PVC puncture resistant liners, linking straps, telescoping paddles, and comfortable type III life vests, we can provide a safe and adventurous experience for groups of any size! The largest single group we’ve had the pleasure to launch on the river was 65 guests!

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I am very thankful for the support and opportunities we’ve had since starting our business. Luck has played a very minimal role in what we’ve achieved. Commitment, consistency, and care maintain our forward momentum when struggle takes hold and motivation diminishes.
