Hidden Gems: Meet Meagan Ferris of Ferris Design and Architecture

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meagan Ferris.

Hi Meagan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I began my design career in 2008. The United States was experiencing an economic downfall and I was in college attempting to enter the industry that hit the hardest… Construction.

While in school, I managed to get a job as a kitchen designer. I was studying architecture and it got my foot in the door. I graduated in 2011. At that time, I didn’t have enough experience as an architect to compete against others in the industry so I waited my turn.

In 2013, I landed my first job as an architect at a design firm in the city. Between 2013 and 2020, I networked A LOT. I’ve met big names in the industry that essentially carved my path to where I am today.

In 2020, I decided “now is the time to open my own company!” Even with COVID, the construction industry is booming and has been a blessing for my company.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all! It takes money to make money. I was a single mom until 2019 when I met my now-husband. I had my daughter in college. Without the help of my parents, I would have quit years ago.

Ferris Design and Architecture is a full-service design and construction firm.

From conceptual design and renderings to real-life construction, we do it all! We provide something as small as handyman services and as large as an entire custom home.

What sets us apart is we are female and family-owned! We are primarily based in Chicago but licensed in multiple states including Tennessee!

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Everyone knows someone! Most of my clients have been due to word of mouth. Always have a business card, Facebook and Instagram are amazing for networking as well!
