Hidden Gems: Meet Dr. Morissa Schwartz of GenZ Publishing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Morissa Schwartz. Here is her story:

After recovery from a childhood illness gave Dr. Morissa Schwartz a new lease on life, Morissa created a goal list, of which she has accomplished 75% of her dreams including breaking a Guinness World Record, saving a life, being a featured singer on MTV, being featured on a Times Square billboard, penning a bestselling book, and of course opening a successful business that helps business owners and authors.

Morissa owns GenZ Publishing, a book publishing company, which has produced over twenty Amazon bestsellers by fresh-voiced, diverse authors, most of whom are in the BIPOC, neurodivergent, and/or LGBTQ+ communities. She is also the owner of Dr. Rissy’s Writing & Marketing, ranked the top writing and marketing company in NJ, where she and her team use their creativity, education, and diverse backgrounds to enable small businesses to grow online. She holds a Doctorate in Arts & Literature from Drew University and a Masters in Corporate and Public Communication from Monmouth University.

Community Magazine named Morissa the “Voice of Generation Z”. She receives over 4 million views on her often funny, inspiring, and educational online videos every month. Morissa is a current contributor to Entrepreneur and previously contributed to HuffPost, Entertainment Weekly, and Grunge. She was named one of Forbes 30 Under 30 in Media this year.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
When I started my business, my father (who has been an entrepreneur most of his life) said there will be an issue every day. I didn’t believe him, but now I’m happy if there’s only one issue every day.

There are so many moving pieces of business and things that can go wrong… But also so many things I can go right. That’s what makes it exciting and worthwhile.

GenZ Publishing emphasizes works by innovative and underrepresented authors. Our books tackle some of our time’s most pressing and trending issues, written by fresh-voiced, diverse authors.

Many of our books have become Amazon bestsellers and ranked on top of lists for a best new age, BIPOC, and LGBTQ books by well-respected publications including NY Post, IBPA, and Buzzfeed because of their cultural impact and addition to important dialogues.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I enjoy visiting Third Man Records. I have been a huge fan for many years and am currently collaborating on a book with Daru Jones, which is a dream. I love that Nashville cultivates art and music the way it does. My most minor favorite part was that I went to the art museum on a Wednesday and it was closed.
