Today we’d like to introduce you to Nisha Chhetri.
Nisha, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born and raised in Nepal, associating the scent and sight of henna with times of celebration within South Asian community. Henna is a paste prepared from the plant, Lawsonia inermis. It is applied on skin to create intricate, temporary tattoo patterns. Henna associates with positive spirit, good luck, good health, and prosperity. My origin story as a henna artist started when I was in high school. Because I was good at drawing, I used to do henna on my friends, and families for various occasions. Later when we moved to the United States in 2015, I did henna on my friends here. They really loved it and started bringing more of their friends to me for henna. In 2016, I created an Instagram account so that more people could know about henna. I am a full-time social worker right now, but I love doing henna. I even go to the Islamic center, temples, charity events, fundraising events, weddings, and a lot of parties to do henna. Today, my clients are from all over the world. Henna has taught me so much about unity, it has helped me share and exchange cultures with so many communities.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Creating henna designs were always my favorite because I was good at it. But when children and people started wanting henna on their belly for the pregnancy photoshoot, I knew I had to find organic henna. Living in a country where henna is not as common as in South East and South Asian counties, I had a really hard time trying to get natural items for henna. It took me a while, but now I make my own henna cones with 100% natural ingredients.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Hennanashville is a small business that offers henna services for all ages. Henna is not just a beautifier; it is also believed to be a self-care method. You would feel more confident, relaxed, positive, lively, and happy when you get henna. I freestyle most of the time, but I am open to the customized designs. I use 100% natural henna, so there is no fear of reactions or allergies. I have a lot of regular clients and I have been serving them for years now. I offer services for weddings, birthday parties, bridal showers, baby showers, and any kind of event.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I believe vision and patience are the most important qualities needed to improve and grow every day.
