Today we’d like to introduce you to Nita Reddick.
Hi Nita, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m a 25-year-old, from Cincinnati, Ohio, and always wanted to be involved in the music entertainment scene someway somehow. I moved from Ohio to Tennessee to go to school at Middle Tennessee State University, where I got my Music Business and Marketing degree.
I fell in love with the concept of marketing. I’ve learned how important social media was to an individual and their brand in order to stand out from other people. Expressing their personality, lifestyle, and growth is very important. Instagram is a perfect way to express all three of those things. I couldn’t afford a photographer so I decided to practice using my phone to take pictures of myself. Two years of doing that as a side hobby have finally paid off.
While in school, I figured I could incorporate my love for marketing into the entertainment scene. I originally wanted to get a job at William Morris Endeavor or Creative Artist Agency, the two biggest ones in Nashville, TN. When COVID happened, I knew it would be difficult to get a job in that field, so I decided to work for a marketing company for a month, then I eventually resigned. I then decided to do my own thing and make my two-year hobby into a business.
At first, I was wishing for 12 clients a month, and I was working for Door Dash on the side to make ends meet. I was even still searching for other marketing and social media jobs. I put a stop to that and I put more of my time and effort into my photography business. I was making sure my message was clear that my business was made to help artists, which is giving them high-quality photos at reasonable prices ($50-200) on average, with a return of the content in 1-3 days.
My number of clients grew rapidly in all different areas far as business profile, creative looks, engagement, weddings, and graduation shoots. I’ve gotten better in my photography angles, editing, style, better communication with clients. I’ve started getting 2-3 clients a day. I currently make up to $800 – $1,000 a week. I became the first paid iPhone Photographer to shoot at the Ryman Auditorium here in Nashville on July 14th, and many other events soon came after and more jobs working with other companies.
My skillset, brand marketing, and networking have really paid off in only a matter of a year of doing this.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not always been a smooth road. I had to deal with distancing myself away from people, keep from running into distractions, and keeping a healthy mindset. I always had to push myself to get out of bed or be more disciplined and handle my responsibilities and no one else was going to do that for me. I’m also proud of myself for pushing myself to do different styles of editing which makes me more versatile to many clients instead of doing one specific type of photography.
As you know, we’re big fans of NitaInNashville Photography. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I’m a freelance professional iPhone Photographer who’s worked with over 200 clients who are influencers, musicans, artist, and even newbies. I give high-quality photos to my clients at reasonable prices with a return rate in 1-3 days. My price range is ten photos for $50, 20 photos for $70 on average. My clients always choose the amount photos they want at the end of the shoot. I got my degree in the music business and minor in marketing, and with that, I found a way to become a specifically unique photographer offering value to others in the entertainment community. I now help anyone who needs photos at reasonable prices, which helps expand my networking game in the city and not just the entertainment scene.
How do you think about luck?
The whole situation has provided me a lot of good luck as in I haven’t been in any dangerous situations or scams from people. I continue to grow my name in Nashville city. I don’t consider anything bad luck or have any regrets because, I’ve learned that life is a lot of trial and error, and I learned from my errors and mistakes which makes this more of a journey to enjoy. This helped me become a better photographer for someone who’s never gone to school for this subject or taught it at all.
