Today we’d like to introduce you to Rhonda Pendergrass.
Hi Rhonda, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve always felt a deep calling to help others, which led me to earn my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and my Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling. My journey began at a counseling center, where I had the privilege of working with individuals and groups, helping them navigate life’s challenges. After several meaningful years there, I followed my passion further by opening my own private practice.
My counseling style is warm, compassionate, and deeply client-centered. I strive to create a safe and supportive space where each person feels heard, understood, and empowered to explore their thoughts and emotions. I have extensive experience supporting clients through grief, loss, and trauma. I often draw from client-centered and cognitive behavioral therapy approaches to meet each person’s unique needs.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
For me, counseling feels more like a calling than just a career. The journey to becoming a counselor can be long and challenging — from completing degrees to earning licensure — but it’s incredibly meaningful work. If you feel inspired to help others, it’s a path well worth pursuing. It requires patience, dedication, and self-discipline, but the reward of making a difference in someone’s life makes every step worthwhile.
We’ve been impressed with Rhonda Pendergrass LPC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My approach to therapy is deeply client-centered, focusing on creating a safe and supportive space where individuals can explore their thoughts and emotions at a deeper level. I often draw from both client-centered and cognitive behavioral therapy techniques to best support each person’s unique needs. I work with clients experiencing depression, grief, trauma, and major life transitions. My goal is always to provide an empathetic and secure environment where healing and growth can take place.
One of the greatest benefits of therapy is having a safe place to process emotions and make sense of difficult experiences. Through this process, clients can work through trauma, gain clarity, and begin to move forward in their lives. Counseling can also help individuals identify and set meaningful goals, build confidence, and express their thoughts and feelings more openly and assertively. Together, we work on developing healthy coping skills and strategies to navigate life’s challenges with resilience and self-compassion.
What makes you happy?
My work is incredibly rewarding and plays a big part in my overall happiness. Outside of counseling, I find joy and fulfillment in spending time with my family and friends. I also enjoy traveling or relaxing with a good book or movie. I love the comfort and companionship of my pets — they always bring an extra bit of happiness to my days!
