Hidden Gems: Meet Sofia Myers of remnant coffee co

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sofia Myers.

Hi Sofia , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My story began during my senior year at Tennessee Tech, where I was studying civil engineering. I had told myself if I was going to get a job I’d only work in fields that sparked genuine curiosity — and coffee was one of them. I got a job as a barista at Vertical Coffee Company in Cookeville, and that simple decision changed the trajectory of my life.

Behind the bar, I fell in love not only with the community but with the artistry and craft of coffee. Creating drinks wasn’t just pouring espresso — it was a blend of precision, patience, and creativity. Each cup became an intentional act of care, and I realized how something as simple as coffee could build genuine connection.

That season showed me what true community looks like — where people are seen, known, prayed for, and encouraged. After graduation, I began my engineering career in Franklin, but I couldn’t shake the sense that God was calling me back to this kind of work — something slower, more intentional, and centered on people.

My husband Will and I decided to follow that call. What began as a mobile coffee cart in February has now grown into a micro café inside The Clubhouse Pilates Studio in downtown Franklin, opening this November. Remnant was built to reflect our faith through excellence, hospitality, and the way we love people.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Building Remnant at 22 was anything but easy. I stepped into this journey without formal business experience or financial training, but with a heart full of faith and a vision for something bigger. We leaned heavily on the wisdom of mentors who taught us how to lead with God and serve people well. For months, we balanced running the café while working full-time engineering jobs — long nights, early mornings, and everything in between. Eventually, I took the leap and left my engineering career to give Remnant my all. It’s been challenging, but deeply rewarding.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about remnant coffee co?
Remnant was born from a desire to serve coffee that cares — for people, for the body, and for creation. As a Christ-centered café, we value quality and connection above all else. From our small-batch, housemade syrups to our mold-free beans roasted in Cookeville, TN, every detail is intentional. We choose local whole milk, seed oil–free alternatives, and compostable, plastic-free packaging because integrity matters at every step. In our space, we hope you feel known — and that your coffee loves you back.
