Today we’d like to introduce you to Xela Andrews.
Hi Xela, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have always had a love and interest in Interior Design and construction. My father and grandfather built homes in Soda Springs, Idaho many years ago. So, I guess you could say it is in my blood.
I started this company in February of 2017. Initially sharing my love of Interior Design with friends and family, this business quickly grew from small design opportunities to huge home remodels with my latest project being a 12,000 sq ft entire home remodel. Spaces in Bloom Designs started out in the small town of Keller, TX and now has projects all over the Dallas/Fort Worth area and we are starting a new fun project in the Nashville area. I have a deep passion for family and spending meaningful time together. My passion for making Spaces Bloom comes from a lifelong desire to create inviting, comfortable and elegant spaces where families and friends can gather. It is during these times and in these spaces that my most valuable family memories have been created. I love working with my clients and helping their dreams come true. As an added bonus, I enjoy getting to know my clients and their families, giving me many new lifelong friends.
My family and I recently moved from Dallas, TX to Brentwood, TN. I am so excited to expand my business into the Nashville area. My husband and I have been married for almost 25 years. He is my biggest fan and strongest supporter of going for my dreams and doing what I love… We have 3 children. Our oldest two are in college and attend the University of Oklahoma. Our youngest is a Freshman at Brentwood high school. We are so excited to make Nashville our home.
I absolutely love what I do, I take great pride in my work and feel very lucky to help my clients with their most personal space: their home.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
If anyone were to tell you that designing/renovating homes is easy and without struggles, they would be lying. There are constant restraints and challenges. I have learned so much over the years and honestly, I feel like I learn something new with every single project. But I love the challenge. I love working through a problem until I find a solution. It is so gratifying when you find the perfect solution to a challenging situation.
In today’s design world, there are a few challenges. First thing that comes to mind is the supply chain challenges. Projects that took 3 months pre-COVD now take 6-9 months. Products like appliances that previously took 3-6 weeks to arrive now take 9 months to a year. Planning ahead and coordinating more closely with the contractors has become more critical. Second, I want to give my clients the space exactly how they envision. Because I strive for the highest level of customer satisfaction, spending time with them to create the perfect space can be one of the biggest challenges. I hear stories from my clients who have worked with previous designers explaining that they never had their needs met because the chosen designer didn’t listen. Listening to my clients and then creating exactly what they want can be one of my challenges and my biggest success.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Spaces in Bloom Designs?
I help my clients with a wide range of challenges including: selection of architectural details and finishes, collaborating with architects and builders, decorating a functional beautiful space with furniture, fabrics, accessories, and creating custom pieces tailor-made for your living space.
From the very first meeting of your project, my team and I work with you and your builder/contractor to create the perfect space that feels entirely your own.
We want to get to know you. What do you like? How do you live? What are your needs for this space? We help you with every detail from floor plans, to paint colors. We help with the overwhelming process of choosing tile, flooring, cabinetry, fixtures and hardware, and everything in between.
We will work together to plan a space that is not just beautiful but functional as well.
I will be your voice and main contact with your builder/contractor. I will work with them and handle all the confusing details that come from renovating or building a home.
Lastly, my team and I help you fill your rooms with the things that you love — from custom furniture and draperies down to the accessories on the coffee table and the family photos on the wall. This is truly where your story begins so you can share it with those that you love.
I know from my own personal experience that this process can be stressful and overwhelming. I have the unique ability to envision the end product, and if you can trust the process, together, we can create a beautiful home where you can share a lifetime of memories.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Overall, I would say that the industry outlook is very strong and growing. Ever since the pandemic happened in March 2020 it changed the design and construction industry in so many ways. More people are home and want to spend money to make their home a place they want to be. I have had the opportunity to do a lot of wonderful projects. My business has grown so much in the last 2 years. I am so grateful for the opportunity and for the work, but it is not without challenges. The constant shortages and shipping delays have made it challenging. Projects are taking so much longer to complete and it’s challenging for homeowners. Especially if they are living in the home during the renovations. We are all learning to have more patience.
