Inspiring Conversations with Amanda Guy of Happenstance Social Lounge

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Guy.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My husband and I love to host and entertain. We love a good craft cocktail, glass of wine, fun and adventure. We wanted to take these things and offer them close to home. In short, we wanted to bring the city experience to the suburbs. From these loves, Happenstance Social was born- Nolensville’s one and only social lounge.

We read, we studied, we observed until it was time to pull the trigger, and opened in Nolensville, TN in the middle of a pandemic. It has been a fun and crazy ride and we continue to learn and improve everyday. We have so many amazing things planned to offer our community and can’t wait to share more of what we have in store soon. We want to offer the suburban community all the things that we all love to experience in the city.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Surprisingly, opening during a pandemic wasn’t all that bad. Nolensville is made up of some amazing people who came out to support us as well as other local businesses in the area. Pandemic aside, being first-time restauranteurs and working alongside your spouse has its own challenges, but we consider ourselves blessed and resilient. We enjoy and welcome the challenges and simply use them as an opportunity to improve.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Happenstance Social is a social lounge that offers the suburban community a city experience right around the corner. The decor- modern and sophisticated meets fun and quirky, the offerings- expertly crafted unique cocktails, a self-serve wine wall with over 40 different by the ounce selections, and small plates to satisfy your other cravings. We also host fun, interactive craft cocktail classes where you and your friends can make and enjoy your own creations. With the success of these classes and other events hosted at Happenstance, we are very soon expanding to even more new fun events- so make sure to visit happenstancesocial.com and subscribe to our emails to stay tuned!

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
My husband, Dylan is into podcasts; he loves to listen to Joe Rogan’s, as he always has the most interesting and successful people on there. I tune in from time to time while we travel to visit family. As far as resources we used prior to opening our business- we read and studied from anything we could get our hands on! We did everything from reading “Wine for Dummies” to frequenting SBA Score workshops on creating your business plan to creating dream boards and checklists on giant sticky notes we posted throughout our home. It was a lot of work at times and of course, still is, but like my grandpa used to tell us, “If you work hard, you might mount to something.”
