Today we’d like to introduce you to Angelina Lopez.
Hi Angelina, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m from Orlando, FL and moved to Nashville several years ago. I worked in the music industry for 1 1/2 years and started Velour Events, Inc five years ago and then later launched Velourette in July 2021 after working not the concept and design for 2 years.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Oh my gosh no, the first 2 years were incredibly hard and then 2 years after that! Our first year, we won a large venue contract that later ended and we went through some minor cash flow issues due to late payments from clients, then another year later we experienced challenges with client weddings at another venue due to unforeseen issues with building delays. Another year later (year 3 and 2020), we went through COVID which presented a whole new set of issues and challenges for me. We lost employees and hired new employees and had to rebuild. In the midst of this, I also went through a very difficult divorce where I was absolutely terrified that I would lose half of everything that I had independently worked for. I’m very thankful to be on the other side of those challenges with an incredible team and full ownership of my businesses. Thankfully I was able to take advantage of available SBA loans and grants that were available to small businesses like mine and it saved us. Now they are healthy and thriving and I’m committed to the continued growth of my businesses and my team.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are an events management company specializing in Weddings, Corporate Events, Bachelorette Parties and Social Events. What sets us apart from others is our intentional approach to planning, we never want clients to feel like just a “date on our calendar” but a part of our little family. The brand is known for thinking outside the box, creating great vendor partnerships, and “stress free” planning.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I’m a big risk taker, almost to a fault. I’m constantly taking big risks and as a result, it has been the reason for growth over the past 5 years. I started The Space at 100 Taylor from a coffee meeting and in the middle of COVID (Aug 2020).
