Inspiring Conversations with Aubrey Austin of homeRN Nashville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aubrey Austin

Hi Aubrey, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I received a Master’s in Science of Nursing from Vanderbilt University in 2017. I worked for St. Thomas Rutherford as a women’s health nurse practitioner for approximately 5 years before transitioning to Vanderbilt. I have loved my experience as a women’s health nurse practitioner. Caring for women and their families across the lifespan has been such an honor. I look forward to assisting families in the future with homeRN. I feel that homeRN offers such an amazing opportunity to broaden my scope of practice, allowing me to help more clients and families in need of care.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I have always been extremely interested in caregiving services. During high school, my grandmother lived with us for four years after my grandfather passed away. I was able to experience first hand the benefit of caregiving in the home and the impact that it had on her quality of life. However, I would be remiss to not recognize how stressful this was for my parents. I often thought about a solution that would allow my Grandmother to stay in the home without the familial stress and strain. homeRN is that solution. I am so grateful to offer services to other families in need of caregiving.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
homeRN will be an incredible resource for the local healthcare landscape. As the city of Nashville continues to expand and flourish, it is imperative that we have the necessary support for our growth in the community. I think it is essential to have a third-party resource that can improve the transition from hospital discharge to at-home management of care.
Additionally, Nashville has a need for urgent care in the home. Many people come to Nashville to receive health care services from nationally ranked hospital systems. The wait lists to see providers are long, and sometimes patients are not seen in a timely manner. I think taking care of non-emergent medical needs in the home will not only alleviate some of the hospital strain but also offer quality care to patients.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
As a Nashville native, I feel qualified to lead this location because I am well immersed in the community. I look forward to assisting friends and families that have also helped me at times. We are truly a community that comes together during difficult times, and rises to all occasions. Personally, I have experienced the joy and stress of caring for a loved one. Sometimes, this responsibility can feel isolating and exhausting. homeRN is able to walk alongside these families with support, passion, and experience. We alleviate those stressors, allowing families to enjoy their loved ones instead of focusing on coordinating their care.
My short-term goal for homeRN Nashville is to engage in the community. I want to spread the word of homeRN to local hospitals, medical offices, home health, and nursing schools. I want people to remember homeRN when they need nursing services, caregiving, or IV therapy. I plan to use social media largely to keep homeRN Nashville circulating throughout the community.
My long-term goals for homeRN would be consistency, retention, and quality of care. I strive to create a business that remains intimate and individualized with growth over time. We have all seen companies that lose sight of their initial mission with growth. It is my goal to lead homeRN Nashville with compassion, kindness, and the drive to always work harder. The long-term goal is to change and grow with the needs of the community. We can always do more for clients and their families.
