Today we’d like to introduce you to Billy Gemmill.
Hi Billy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always been fascinated by what happens behind the scenes — the moving parts, the people, and the creative energy that make live experiences come alive. My journey started in touring and live event production, where I learned early on that the magic of a show isn’t just what happens on stage — it’s the collaboration, the planning, and the countless hours that go into making something unforgettable.
Over the years, I worked my way through the world of festivals, tours, and brand activations — helping build experiences for companies like Nike, Red Bull, and Live Nation. Those opportunities led me to launch Six One Live, a creative production and brand-strategy studio based here in Nashville. We specialize in turning ideas into experiences — from immersive campaigns and multimedia content to large-scale live events. At its core, Six One Live is about connecting creativity and culture, and helping brands tell stories that feel alive.
While on tour, I saw firsthand how demanding life on the road can be — especially when it comes to health and wellness. That insight sparked the creation of Rock Doc Six One Live, a concierge medical and wellness company that supports artists, crews, and production teams with on-site care, IV therapy, chiropractic, and 24/7 telehealth. We’ve built a trusted network of board-certified physicians, physical therapists, and emergency professionals who understand the fast-paced world of entertainment and what it takes to keep people at their best.
Both companies represent different sides of the same mission — supporting the people behind the show, whether that’s through creative storytelling or hands-on wellness care. Nashville has been the perfect home for that vision. It’s a city fueled by creativity and community, and I’m grateful to contribute to that ecosystem every day — helping artists, brands, and teams bring their best to the stage and beyond.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a straight path — more like a series of pivots, lessons, and creative problem-solving moments. Working in live events and production means things rarely go exactly according to plan. You’re constantly adapting — whether it’s a last-minute venue change, a storm rolling in mid-festival, or a brand campaign that needs a total rework overnight. Those experiences taught me how to stay calm under pressure, make quick decisions, and lead with clarity when it matters most.
When I started building Six One Live and Rock Doc Six One Live, one of the biggest challenges was balancing creativity with sustainability — figuring out how to scale big ideas without losing authenticity or burning out the team. Launching a medical division within the entertainment industry also came with a unique learning curve: navigating compliance and licensing, and building trust with artists and management who expect absolute discretion.
The pandemic was another major test — overnight, the live industry came to a standstill. But it forced me to rethink everything, rebuild systems, and double down on long-term value. Out of that uncertainty came innovation — the foundation for Rock Doc Six One Live was actually strengthened during that time because wellness suddenly became a priority in a way it hadn’t before.
Every obstacle has been a reminder that growth rarely happens when things are easy. I’ve learned to see challenges as opportunities to refine the vision, strengthen relationships, and keep moving forward with purpose — even when the road gets unpredictable.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Rock Doc Six One Live?
At the heart of everything we do is connection — connecting creativity, wellness, and the people who make unforgettable experiences happen.
Six One Live is a creative production and brand-strategy studio that builds ideas from concept to completion. We work across live events, tours, branded activations, and multimedia campaigns — blending storytelling, design, and logistics to help brands bring their vision to life. From large-scale festival builds to cinematic brand content, our focus is always on creating experiences that feel authentic, intentional, and culturally relevant.
Rock Doc Six One Live was born from the same ecosystem — a concierge medical and wellness service designed specifically for the entertainment industry. We provide on-site care for touring artists, crew, and production teams — including IV therapy, physical therapy, chiropractic, and 24/7 telehealth access. Our board-certified physicians and emergency professionals deliver discreet, HIPAA-compliant care wherever it’s needed — hotel, venue, studio, or tour bus. We’re based in Nashville, TN, with an extended team in Cleveland, OH, allowing us to serve productions and tours nationwide.
What sets us apart is the duality of the system we’ve built — the creative and the clinical working side by side. Few industries demand as much physical, mental, and creative endurance as entertainment. We built this model to care for the people behind the show — from the first production meeting to the last encore.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the trust we’ve built. Our teams have supported projects with Live Nation, AEG, and major management firms, yet we still approach every client with a small-team mentality: personal, professional, and confidential. Both brands share a belief that success comes from service — serving creativity, serving health, and serving the people who keep the show running.
If readers take one thing away from our story, I hope it’s that both Six One Live and Rock Doc Six One Live are built around care — care for ideas, for people, and for the moments that move us.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I’m a big believer in constantly learning — not just from within my industry, but from people who think differently, lead creatively, or challenge what’s possible.
For books, I always come back to Creative Confidence by Tom and David Kelley and The War of Art by Steven Pressfield — both remind me to stay in motion, stay curious, and push through creative resistance. On the business and leadership side, Atomic Habits by James Clear has been a game-changer for refining daily structure and staying consistent across multiple projects.
When it comes to podcasts, I rotate between The Tim Ferriss Show, Creative Pep Talk, and How I Built This. They all hit that balance between creativity, mindset, and business — real stories about people building things that matter.
As far as tools, Notion, Airtable, and Asana help me keep both companies organized and connected. I use Canva and Frame.io constantly for creative production and client collaboration, and Headspace or a quick walk with music is usually my reset button when the day gets heavy.
I try to keep a balance between structure and inspiration — systems that keep things moving, and content that keeps me thinking bigger.
