Inspiring Conversations with Breanna Waller of Viviant Healthcare

Today we’d like to introduce you to Breanna Waller.

Hi Breanna, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started my career as a nurse at the bedside caring for patients from birth to death. The level of desire to do more for not only my patients but other patients took root in my year at the bedside. I had a conviction to share my passion for ensuring that patients got the very best care and understood their options better. The same conviction leads me to become a liaison. The ability to be an advocate, trusted adviser, and listening ear to patients on a day that is the most scary and confusing to them gave me more purpose in my career then ever before. That was until last year February 6th, 2020. This is the day that I needed a professional like me to be all the things I had been for others. The Saturday was a normal day with the exception that I still could not get over this weird cold that had seemed to linger for over a month. I was driving with my friend home after taking our boys to Murfreesboro when my cough turned into airway constriction. We were 1 mile from the local EMS and so we drove to their doorsteps. I will never forget the fear as I had in that moment as I thought about my two boys, 5 and 18 months at the time. I could feel the coldness of death and I could not let my boys see that. However, God had a different plan that day because the EMS director just so happened to be driving by on his way home and saw us. The route to the local hospital was one I can not recall from memory, but only from clinical notes and verbal reports told to me some days later. I was placed on a ventilator for unknown acute respiratory failure. This is not a normal diagnosis for a health 30 years old female and it shocks my family and friends. The days that followed had there ups and downs for me, but I woke up four days later in the ICU and that was the moment of clarity even if in that moment I did not recognize it. I when home with oxygen and pulmonology appointments, but I went home!

About two weeks later, I see this new virus is coming to America and my stomach dropped everything that had happened to be was happening and going to happen to others. As soon as the testing was available and records sent to my doctors, they were finally able to understand the reason behind the unknown acute respiratory failure, COVID-19. The recovery took a month or so, but I went back to work as a liaison as soon as I could. Clarity of what my patients actually feel like on the worst day of their lives resonated with me more than ever. The journey had many more personal situations that made it long and hard but on the other side of that, I found a deeper passion and conviction to care for patients and ensure that they get the best options possible. That is how I found Viviant Healthcare. They were the only facility accepting Covid cases in Middle Tennessee and I know the value that brought to senior. I became their Clinical Hospital Liaison and have enjoyed making sure patients no matter the diagnosis have the in-patient skilled nursing services they need. Viviant Healthcares mission and values were clearly seen in the culture that they have within their local facilities in Murfreesbore, TN and Shelbyville, TN. Our goal at Viviant Healthcare is to provide patient-centered care in a home-like, comfortable environment. Our facility emphasizes a patient experience focused on expert care, comfort, respect, safety and compassion. At Viviant Healthcare of Murfreesboro, we focus on creating a home-like atmosphere, enabling our residents, whether attending for a short or long-term stay, to live each day in a family environment at maximum happiness and satisfaction.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I became a single mother to my two boys in 2020 after my Covid experience in my story. I completed my BBA (Bachelors in Business Administration) with a concentration in Leadership and Management from Trevecca Nazarene University in early 2021 despite my sickness and new journey as a single parent. Currently, I am continuing with my MBA (Masters in Business Administration) with a concentration in Healthcare Administration at Trevecca Nazarene University and will be completing that degree in 2022.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I have participated in many areas and would suggest to get plugged into the different associations, networking groups, and Chambers in your area. Something that I have invested in for myself outside of my continues education is participating is Productivity Consultants & Career Support Services founded by Dr. Tim Rose, Ph.D. His organization has helped to mentor me professionally with the use of education and mentors that are in my field.
