Inspiring Conversations with Brett Bayda of Redneck Wines

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brett Bayda.

Brett, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I didn’t grow up swirling wine in crystal glasses — I grew up on a farm drinking beer out of a cooler. But after a trip to the French countryside eight years ago, everything changed. I saw families laughing, farmers covered in dirt from the fields, all sharing wine like it was part of who they were. No pretense. No rules. Just good people and good company.

So, I came back to America fired up to be part of that world — started my own winery, ready to bring that same feeling home. But it didn’t take long to realize something: the wine industry in America has lost its damn mind. It’s snobby, uptight, and completely out of touch with real people. Wine here is built for the country club, not the country.

I hate that wine isn’t approachable for the next generation. Wine consumption is down and the industry is in shock? Why would you want to drink wine in today’s world when there are so many other fun, innovative prodcuts that speak the same language as gen z and millenials. So I decided to shake things up — to make a wine for the people who actually keep this country running, country folks that like to have a good time.

Redneck Wines is the first 20% high-alcohol red wine made by country folk, for country folk.

It’s bold, smooth, and a little bit rebellious — because so are the people who drink it. It’s proof that wine doesn’t have to be expensive, complicated, or pretentious to be damn good. Redneck Wines flips the script and gives wine back to the people who deserve it most — hard-working, proud, real Americans who know how to have a good time.

Whether you’re on a boat, around a bonfire, tailgating at your favorite football game, or sitting around the dinner table with family — Redneck Wines is made for those moments that actually matter.

At the end of the day, there’s only two questions you should ask when you open a bottle:

Do I like it?

Am I surrounded by people I like?

If the answer’s yes, then hell — we did something right.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting a new wine brand has been one hell of a ride — and not an easy one. Shipping wine direct to consumers sounds great on paper, but the legal barriers from state to state are a nightmare. And even when you do get it shipped, FedEx and UPS take such a big cut, there’s hardly any profit left.

That leaves the traditional route — liquor stores and grocery stores. But grocery stores only stock big, well-known brands. If you’re the new kid on the block, you can forget about getting shelf space until you already have traction.

Distributors don’t make it any easier. Their sales teams work on commission and get maybe two minutes with a store owner. So when push comes to shove, they’re not pitching Redneck Wines — they’re pitching Budweiser, Jack Daniels, and the other heavy hitters that sell themselves.

So if you’re a new brand, you’ve got two choices: quit, or get in the trenches. You’ve got to be creative. You’ve got to post on social media every damn day. You’ve got to find investors who believe in your vision enough to help float the company for the first year or two while you fight for every inch of ground.

If I’m being honest, if I knew then what I know now… sticking to farming probably would’ve given me a lot fewer wrinkles. But I didn’t start Redneck Wines because it was easy — I started it because i want to introduce wine to the next generation, so why is around for another 1000 years.

We’ve been impressed with Redneck Wines, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Redneck Wines is the only red wine that tastes better chilled. It’s semi-sweet, smooth, and built to drink however you want — as a shooter, straight from the bottle, or poured over ice.

Packaged in a whiskey-style, shatterproof bottle, it’s made to go anywhere you do — from tailgates to bonfires to the back of a pickup.

Each batch is fortified with 180-proof brandy, giving it a bold 20% kick that still goes down easy. Unlike most wines, it won’t oxidize overnight once opened, so you can crack it today and finish it tomorrow without losing flavor.

Redneck Wines delivers a smooth buzz, big flavor, and zero pretense — a red wine made for real life.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love the community in Nashville, its diverse but still very much as country roots. We love its the country music capital of the world.

We hate the freeway system.
