Inspiring Conversations with Brittany Payne of Bright

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Payne

Hi Brittany, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Helping others has always been at the core of who I am. As an older sister and a caregiver to my mother during her battle with cancer, I learned the value of resilience, support, and well-being. Through these experiences, I realized how much I wanted to make a difference in people’s lives. At the same time, I found my own outlet in movement and physical activity. I tried different sports growing up, but it was dance that truly captured my heart.

As a collegiate dancer, I pushed myself to new limits, discovering the discipline, hard work, and dedication it took to perform at my best. This drive to improve sparked my curiosity about sports performance and the science behind movement, leading me to pursue a degree in Exercise Science and Nutrition. I became fascinated by how the body and mind work together, not only in athletic performance but in overall health and well-being.

When I graduated, I was at a crossroads. I had recently lost my mother to cancer, and in the wake of that loss, I lost myself too. I stopped taking care of my health, my purpose felt unclear, and I struggled to find direction. Seeking stability, I decided to pursue my master’s degree while also taking a corporate job. But despite doing everything that seemed “right” on paper, I felt empty. I kept searching for something more—something that truly aligned with who I was.

Six months after my mother’s passing, I hit rock bottom and made the decision to reclaim my life. I committed to putting myself first and started training for my first bodybuilding competition. The next six months became a test of resilience—I had to pick myself back up, dig deep, and push myself further than I ever had before. Through discipline and perseverance, I rebuilt not just my body, but my confidence, my passion, and my purpose.

That journey led me to Bright—a business built from my personal transformation and my desire to help others find their own strength. Bright is about more than just fitness; it’s about guiding people through life’s toughest moments, helping them take control of their health, and empowering them to push past their limits.I know firsthand what it means to struggle, to rebuild, and to come out stronger. And now, I help others do the same.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all. The journey has been full of challenges—losing my mom, feeling lost in my own life, and having to rebuild myself from the ground up. But beyond the external struggles, one of the biggest battles I’ve faced has been with myself—self-comparison and self-doubt.

It’s so easy to look around and feel like you’re not doing enough, not successful enough, not strong enough. For a long time, I measured myself against others, questioning whether I was capable of building something meaningful. But over time, I realized that comparison was only holding me back. Instead of trying to be like anyone else, I had to focus on being the best version of me.

So no, it hasn’t been smooth. But every challenge, every doubt, and every setback has led me to where I am today, and for that, I’m grateful.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Bright is more than just a fitness program—it’s a movement dedicated to helping people become the strongest, healthiest versions of themselves, both physically and mentally. Through personalized in-person and online coaching, Bright provides the tools, guidance, and support needed to build strength, confidence, and long-term sustainable habits.

What sets Bright apart is the emphasis on building real, personal connections with my clients. I take the time to truly get to know each individual—their unique goals, struggles, and needs—so I can create a plan that works specifically for them. I believe fitness is a journey that goes beyond just workouts and nutrition; it’s an educational process.

My goal is to ensure that clients not only achieve their immediate goals but also walk away with the knowledge and tools they can use for a lifetime. The lessons learned through our time together are meant to empower them to maintain and continue their progress long after our coaching relationship ends.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Starting out, especially in something like fitness or personal growth, can feel overwhelming. It’s easy to give in to self-doubt, to question whether you’re capable or whether the effort is worth it. But the truth is, everyone starts somewhere, and the biggest hurdle is just getting started.

The most important thing is to keep going, even when it feels hard. I would say, try to write down small things you can do each day that will push you one step closer to creating the business you have dreamt of. Progress isn’t linear, and you won’t see overnight results, but every small step forward counts. Stay committed to your goals, focus on what you can control, and why you started this journey in the first place.
