Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooke Goldstein.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I began my career in 2010 in the advertising industry, working for three of the largest worldwide advertising agencies Ogilvy & Mather, Team One, and Lowe Campbell Ewald. After several years in the industry, I made the decision that it was not the right fit for me. I decided to “jump ship” and asked my father if I could work for him in financial services. He told me I could join but I would need to get licensed and learn the industry inside out. I started just doing administrative work for him. That was a pivotal moment for me. I became passionate about being a woman in this industry. That was 10 years ago.
My dad has definitely been a big influence on me. Watching him excel in the investment industry has shown me the value of hard work and commitment to always growing and improving. I eventually evolved to a Financial Advisor role and went on to receive the CIMA® (Certified Investment Management Analyst®) Certification, administered by the Investments & Wealth Institute, and taught in conjunction with the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
In June 2019, my father and I left our previous firm and founded our company, Brentwood Financial Advisors. It has been really fulfilling starting something of our own and watching it grow.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting our business had its own challenges. My father and I had been working together for 6 years at the time. We built strong relationships with our clients but were limited in terms of what we could offer. Some companies only allow their advisors to offer limited products to the investor – usually, the company’s own product line.
We decided to venture out to start our own business to be able to do better for the client and have a wider array of offerings. The whole process seemed to happen quite naturally from that point on. Now that we are an independent firm, we offer a diverse product choices and solutions based on what suits the client best without limitations from a company dictating what we sell.
As you know, we’re big fans of Brentwood Financial Advisors. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
My firm Brentwood Financial Advisors is a multi-generational asset management company who helps entrepreneurs and families with their wealth management needs. Investment management is at the core of our services but it isn’t all we offer. The people at our company make all the difference in how the business runs and the experience we offer to our clients. We are able to provide our clients with a unique multi-generational perspective and a highly attentive team approach.
It is rewarding to help make an impact on someone’s financial life and to help them live more confidently. We truly get to know each client so we can understand their goals and help them plan a path that works for their financial goals. Whether it is complex financial strategies or just a second opinion on their financial status, we guide them through it all. We take it seriously when we say we are committed to helping our clients pursue the best life possible.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Communication has never been more critical than it was during that period of time. Luckily, our firm prioritizes keeping in contact with our clients so we didn’t have to start from scratch with a communication strategy. We made sure to continually update our clients on important economic changes happening and kept them informed of how that could impact them.
One of the reasons our clients like working with us is that we are extremely accessible. We are only a phone call away whenever they have concerns. This period of time just reaffirmed that we are doing the right thing with our approach.
