Inspiring Conversations with Bryan Vastano of Nashville Woodworking

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bryan Vastano.

Hi Bryan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My dad, as well as both of my grandfathers, worked with their hands, so I feel as though I have always had that blood flowing through me. Once I moved to Nashville from NYC 6 years ago, I was able to set up a small shop in my garage, fixing items around the house, as well as building furniture for friends and family. I’ve currently been completely enamored with cutting boards. The kitchen is such a special place in a home, and for one of my boards to be a part of those memories being created, is so cool to me. Sorry for being sappy, onwards with the interview.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nashville is an unbelievably creative community, with so many artisans and creators. Once I realized that there is room for everyone and we can all learn and grow together, that is when it started to click and move along. Build the community, don’t tear it down.

We’ve been impressed with Nashville Woodworking, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Nashville Woodworking is a one-man shop, creating fine furniture and items from lumber yards and mills right here in the Nashville area. I believe you can see the care I put into all of my products. I personally select all of the boards, and strictly abide by the “do unto others” ethos. If I don’t feel completely confident in each item, I will remake it or not offer it for sale.

What are your plans for the future?
I look forward to building and supporting the Nashville creative community. If there are client requests that are completely outside my abilities or time constraints, I am always happy to refer them to a friend that can competently complete the job. There are no referral fees, strings attached; this is a fantastic community where I have learned so much, and I am happy to give back whenever and wherever I can.
