Hi Cassie , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story really started during the pandemic, like so many others, I rediscovered my love of reading. I did what every new romance reader does who are on Booktok and started with the classics: A Court of Thorns and Roses, the Gilded Prisoner series. I was hooked. I loved it all,
When I moved to Nashville, I discovered this incredible, thriving book community here, and something clicked. I have a background as a sex coach and selling sex toys, and it didn’t take long to realize that romance novels and vibrators go hand in hand. Women were consuming these books, falling in love with the passion and intimacy on the pages and then believing that the good sex scenes, the orgasms, the deep connection – that’s all fiction. I disagreed.
That’s really where From Cover to Covers was born. I wanted to create a one stop shop where women could find the books and the tools to bring those stories to life because not all romance has to stay on the page. My business exists to help women build the romance, the relationships, and the sex life they actually want.
Now, I’ll be honest, if you’re reading about a mafia boss or a monster shifter, some of that is going to stay fictional. But I do carry some toys that can help with those particular fantasies.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Honestly? Not even a little smooth but I wouldn’t trade it. Like every small business owner, I’ve had to wrestle with the big stuff: walking away from a reliable income to bet on myself was terrifying. Deciding to quit my job and go all in on this was one of the hardest calls I’ve made, and the uncertainty doesn’t fully go away.
Then there’s the day-to-day reality of being a one-woman operation. I’m the social media manager, the shipping department, the inventory system, and the customer service team. The learning curve is real, and it’s ongoing.
Competing with giants like Amazon is its own challenge. People love the idea of supporting a small business right up until they compare shipping times and prices and I get it, I do. But it means I’m constantly working to communicate what makes shopping here different, what you’re actually getting when you support FCTC that you can’t get from a warehouse algorithm.
Finding customers has also been a unique hurdle without a physical storefront. Everything is online, so getting the word out is a constant effort. I’ve had vendor events fall flat, content that didn’t land, strategies I had to scrap and rebuild.
But every time something doesn’t work, I figure out what does. That’s kind of the job, it’s a new challenge each day.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Be patient. Everything doesn’t happen overnight, keep working at it and you’ll see the payoff.
