Today we’d like to introduce you to Cedrick Walker.
Hi Cedrick, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I got started around 2020 during the height of the pandemic. I came across this social media app called Stereo. Which was a podcasting app that allowed you to go live with another creator and record your own podcast episodes. So from there, I met a host of different people from all walks of life. Especially creators from the UK. From there, I developed friendships with creators from London and Manchester and we just kept cranking out episodes every day because we kept getting a lot of listeners. So much so that Stereo verified us and paid us to continue making episodes. It was a great time indeed.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not really. Definitely hit a few snags along the way. Everything from Stereo changing their payment policies, to the platform itself getting sold multiple times, to drama with cohosts, etc. That’s when I decided to upload the episodes to Spotify. Mind you, this was during the pandemic so there were people calling into the show wanting us to address political issues and some even causing disruptive behavior on the show, but we powered through it and made sure we had moderators who made sure things didn’t get out of hand.
We’ve been impressed with Dretti Media LLC. , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
So my business Dretti Media LLC is a business I started a few years ago because I was getting good at creating and editing content. During the pandemic, Nashville was one of the few cities that didn’t have tight restrictions so I would document and make content out of the adventures that me and my friends would go on. So much so that people who would listen to the podcast would be able to get a glimpse of what my life was like. It caught a lot of attention that I started to receive messages from people asking if I could make or edit content for them and their business. At first it was just a hobby that I enjoyed doing. Especially the drone work, but eventually it turned into something more. Later on, my friend Lisa who runs a non profit organization called Notes For Coats, part of the Jack Mcgovern Coats Disease Foundation, asked me to do some content creation for them and it took off from there ever since. I mostly specialize in editing content for other people, but I do drone work sometimes. It depends on the client needs. What sets me apart from others is the style of editing that I do. I like to make the videos as if it was a music video. To have all the shots sync perfectly with a popular song playing in the background that grabs the viewers attention immediately. I love it. It’s like creating something out of nothing and it such a wonderful feeling. My message to the readers is this, if you or someone you know who is a content creator but doesn’t have the time to edit your own videos, or if you have a small business and you have no idea how to market yourself, let me help you! We can tackle it together.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love the people. The people here are always so nice and hospitable. I love that even though we’ve become a big city, it doesn’t feel overwhelming or intimidating. I also like the growth that we’ve seen over the years. There’s so much to do and see now. I love that you can just park downtown and just explore everything within a relative few blocks. From all the different restaurants to the murals, to the random pop up concerts on Broadway, Nashville is becoming a place where people can come here and have a good time. Something that I don’t like about the city is the political leaders tend to prioritize superficial opportunities over infrastructure. They’d rather spend money on hotels and stadiums over fixing the potholes or giving us a rail system to reduce traffic. It’s a little ridiculous. Not to mention the high property taxes that have pushed out some of Nashville’s businesses and restaurants. Once we get the right leadership in place, the city will rise to its fullest potential.
