Today we’d like to introduce you to Courteny Miralrio
Hi Courteny, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey in the coffee world began at Starbucks in California, where my passion for coffee truly flourished. Over the years, I explored various coffee shops and soaked in every experience. However, when we moved to Tennessee, my dreams of continuing in the coffee industry faced a setback—I struggled to find a position that fit with my family’s hectic schedule and eventually set aside my aspirations.
I had always envisioned opening my own mobile coffee business, but I kept making excuses, especially with my husband’s military commitments adding an element of unpredictability to our lives. Then, in December 2023, our home was struck by a tornado, and it served as a powerful wake-up call. In just 15 seconds, we realized how ephemeral life can be. Why not chase my dreams?
Determined to take action, I found a horse trailer for sale two hours away and excitedly sent the listing to my husband, unsure if he’d want to pursue it. To my surprise, that same night we set out to get the trailer. Within a month, we transformed it into a coffee business. Fast forward six months, and I was presented with the incredible opportunity to open a storefront. True to form, the day we received the keys, we poured our heart and soul into the project, working tirelessly day and night until we could finally open our doors, which took us about three weeks. It’s been a whirlwind journey, and I’m grateful for every moment of it
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The most challenging aspect of my journey was launching a business in a town where I didn’t have many connections. Coupled with my husband’s deployment, I found myself balancing the demands of solo parenting with the responsibilities of being a business owner—something I know many can relate to. However, it’s been incredible to see how quickly you can forge a sense of community and the immense support this town offers to small businesses.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My vision was to create a welcoming space that fosters connection and community—a place where people could come together and relax. As I designed the shop, I made a concerted effort to incorporate as many local elements as possible, infusing the decor with a faith-based twist to give it a unique and heartfelt touch
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I didn’t grow up in the most stable environment and often found myself in and out of foster homes. However, I was fortunate to encounter inspiring adults who guided me and encouraged my involvement in 4-H, FFA, sewing, and basketball. These experiences highlighted the significance of having positive influences in my life, shaping my understanding of community and the profound impact it can have on our personal growth
