Inspiring Conversations with Daphne DeLoren of Daphne DeLoren Productions

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daphne DeLoren.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My passion for meteorology and broadcasting was sparked at the early age of 14 when I was handed a graphic clicker for my first practice weathercast at KESQ-TV in Palm Springs, CA. After countless academic struggles and failures, I was determined and graduated with my meteorology degree from Florida State University.

Just before graduating, I landed my first on-air job at WNEM, a CBS affiliate in Mid-Michigan. I quickly transitioned from the weekend meteorologist to Weekday Mornings. A short time after, I landed my on-air weekday morning position at NBC in Nashville, Tennessee.

During my time in television, I developed a passion for inspiring others to overcome obstacles and live with more joy.

I witnessed so many friends and coworkers living a robotic lifestyle, sleepless, dreading going to work, living for the weekend, counting down until a vacation.

I was on a mission to help people so we started a new segment on the air, ‘Daily Drop of Sunshine’ segment on NBC in Nashville. It was about living with truth, love, purpose, and overcoming limiting beliefs. After five years of being an on-air meteorologist, I gained courage and left the station to share a message of hope with professional speaking and my podcast, A Drop of Sunshine.

The pandemic happened and crushed a lot of that since it was associated with public appearances.

I’ve now started a new journey with forecasting the weather from home… Something I never thought was possible. Through the support of my patrons, sponsorships, and technology it is possible to reinvent our dreams. I’m extra grateful since I can be present with my two boys at home. I also do freelance work, like emceeing events and acting in commercials.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing smooth about my journey. 🙂

I failed SO many times during my time at FSU. Getting a meteorology degree was an 80% fail rate. My weakness in math and science was not helpful… hah!

I studied all day and night… could not afford enough paper for the practice it took so I bought a whiteboard to be able to practice, erase then practice. I barely slept studying through most nights, just praying to pass. My faith in God was a huge factor in getting me through. I needed a 70 to graduate. I graduated with a 70.1!

Once I landed my on-air positions, I was not prepared for the online bullies that would attack daily. I had people tell me the hated my eyebrows, while someone else shared how much they loved my eyebrows in the same day. Pregnancy appearance and shaming was brutal. Looking back, I’m grateful because it gave me thick skin and confidence in who I am even more.

Leaving television, I thought entrepreneur life would be a piece of cake. It was much harder than anticipated and felt very lonely at times.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m known for my brand, A Drop of Sunshine (inspiration), faith, and now a private meteorologist for the Middle Tennessee area.

I freelance with speaking engagements, helping people overcome limiting beliefs. I shared my stories of failure, lowest lonely moments to help others and share how it’s possible to not only overcome those obstacles but become better off because of it. It takes moments of being stretched to grow. Those tough seasons are only a chapter of our story, not the full book.

Besides that, I still forecast the weather for the middle Tennessee area. Patrons can help support bringing the weather on social media and in turn, they get weekly weather updates. When significant weather threatens the area, I’m on it. I give weather briefings and track strong/severe storms to help keep people safe.

What matters most to you? Why?
My faith in God, my family, living a life of love, and providing true value to others. This life is so precious. The things the world focuses on… money, fame, and status will not go with us when we pass. I want to live life to the fullest by focusing on the unseen, more important things… having a greater perspective, and teaching my children how to do the same.

Pricing:

  • my patrons pay anywhere from $5 – $100 a month for supporting middle TN weather updates
  • my speaker fee is $5,000. If it’s not within an events budget, I usually honor their budget.
