Inspiring Conversations with Derrick Deen of Deen Machine Quarterback Training

Today we’d like to introduce you to Derrick Deen.

Hi Derrick, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I love football. Growing up, I lived everywhere between Jacksonville, Florida, and Bowling Green, Kentucky. I come from a home that sat at the poverty line and the only way I got through it all was beginning with the end in mind: a football career.

2020 was the cornerstone of change in my life, as I’m sure many can attest to. I was a class of 2020 graduate from high school. That year, I was met with a lot of challenges: I lost football scholarships due to COVID-19, I ballooned to 250 pounds, and I ultimately joined the military after I flunked out of college. Does this sound like the beginning of a success story?

In 2021, I began mine. comeback and per what you read here, it’s still a work in progress. Like many other entrepreneurs, creatives, and community leaders, we all have that in common. I got back into college, attending Western Kentucky University, and pursuing a sports management degree with a minor in athletic coaching. I’m now a three-time Dean’s List student since starting again in the Fall of 2021.

I interned for the 2022 and 2023 Hula Bowl events and Podium All-Star Bowl, began attending The Scouting Academy and started coaching quarterbacks at Henry F. Moss middle school while simultaneously working as the Recruiting Coordinator for the Jacksonville Athletic Academy. I also joined Blue Chip Scouting as a scout. I served as the co-director of the Bowling Green Youth Flag Football League.

With all of this knowledge in hand, I decided I wanted to start a quarterback training academy: Deen Machine Quarterback Training. As a young student-athlete that could never afford the services I needed, I wanted to give quarterbacks between Nashville and Bowling Green an affordable option that would come with a passion for growth and expectation of excellence between the classroom, football field, and personally.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The challenges along the way have been formidable, to say the least. Aside from mental health and several traumatic happenings in 2020, there have been financial struggles as a college kid that works a full-time and part-time job. I grew up in poverty, so I went headfirst into this with no safety net and a whole lot of hope.

As you know, we’re big fans of Deen Machine Quarterback Training. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Deen Machine Quarterback Training is a brand-new training academy for the quarterback position in football, geared for youth-level athletes (high school and under). A customer should know that the rates charged are affordable, as low as $25.99 a month and as high as $34.99. Each kid gets the same services, which that and the rates set us apart from the rest almost completely.

Brand-wise, I’m proud of what I can give these student-athletes. I’ll offer a wide variety of equipment use, focused training on baseline mechanics, classroom sessions, take-home equipment, and recruiting services (such as piecing together highlights, setting up their social media for success, contacting colleges, and helping with the college application process). In the end, I want readers to know this: DMQB offers a lot more for a lot less!

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Anyone can tell you that we all need a little bit of good luck. But I can openly say that bad luck has played its role a lot more often than not. But bad luck has taught me a lot: to think outside the box, to remember my why, and to keep up the relentless pursuit. The up and downs will happen: celebrate each one!

Pricing:

  • $25.99 is the basic monthly package.
  • $34.99 is the next package up, which gets you a t-shirt and the chance to bring a friend for free!
