Today we’d like to introduce you to Diana Rosales.
Hi Diana, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey working in marketing started in 2015 as soon as I graduated with my Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism: Advertising & Public Relations. Upon graduation, I started working a “nine to five” job. My main goal was simple: to gain experience in the field and learn from those who have been in the industry longer.
I discovered my love for digital marketing during one of my first roles. I could feel my enthusiasm for helping small businesses elevate their social media presence, so I began doing some freelance work on the side. Some of these projects included graphic design, marketing transcreations, and content creation.
As a first-generation Latina, I had a big task ahead of me. I felt the need to break free from the statistics and stereotypes society has put on me for the simple fact of being a young Latina coming from an immigrant family and had a strong desire to serve my Latino community.
It did not take me long to realize that there weren’t enough digital marketing resources supporting small multicultural businesses in Middle Tennessee. This is where I saw my opportunity, my chance to truly make a difference. Despite having a full-time job, I decided to step out of my comfort zone and started my own business in 2019, Be Más Digital (aka Be More Digital).
Just like many others, I was furloughed in 2020 when COVID took a massive toll on the company I was working for. Instead of feeling defeated, I took this as a sign that it was my time to dive deep into Be Más Digital. I was determined to become the resource my Latino small business owners needed to thrive on social media among other local businesses. I have since dedicated myself 100% to doing what I love most- inspire, teach and empower the Latino community to use social media strategically to grow their businesses.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Among the many challenges any entrepreneur can face when starting their own businesses, I would have to say my biggest hurdle has been the language barrier. I arrived in this blessed country the same way most other immigrants have- with a suitcase full of dreams and aspirations. The only thing potentially stopping me from achieving those dreams? I had a small support circle, no contacts, and very basic English.
I even questioned whether I should continue with my studies in Mass Communication or switch my career to focus on Hospitality or Psychology. I felt my accent and my “less than proficient” level of English would not help me fulfill my dreams.
I proved my parents’ theory true. Hard work and determination do pay off. Today I am happy to say I am a bilingual social media manager with over four years of experience working with small and medium-sized companies in a variety of sectors: arts & entertainment, non-profits, and hospitality.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Be Más Digital focuses on helping multicultural small businesses and entrepreneurs grow a strong and positive presence on social media. My goal as a bilingual social media manager is to empower these entrepreneurs to use the power of social media to tell their stories, build their communities, and learn to post with purpose.
Be Más Digital offers resources and services like social media management, content creation, platform training, and one-on-one social media strategy consultations in both English and Spanish. You can also find free social media tips on our Instagram page. We focus on making sure these businesses are able to not only deliver their message effectively but also do so in a culturally sensitive manner.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Family, health, and purpose. These are the little things that drive us and motivate us to become better, not only for ourselves but for our entire community. Anything that makes you want to live a happy and fulfilling life is definitely what should always hold as your top priority.
Everyone has a purpose. And honestly, life is too short to not be doing what you love.
