Inspiring Conversations with Dijuan Woods of True Woods Kennels

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dijuan Woods.

Hi Dijuan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Music is in my blood. My family is full of artistic souls. My twin brother and I started playing the Djembe for our religious congregation at the age of 9. I started playing the guitar a little bit a few years later.

By the time I graduated high school, I had begun to shadow my uncle (who’s also a DJ). During my first week on campus as a freshman, I was offered the opportunity to DJ a yard party for a Greek organization and the crowd loved me. I never looked back after that.

I quickly became the campus DJ and hosted many official campus events for the school administration as well. By my sophomore year, my brother and I decided to establish our own record label called Earth Control Ent. Since then I have continued to DJ all over Tennessee and look forward to expanding my sound and creativity all over the nation.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The journey hasn’t been the easiest. When I first started getting into the DJ life I had very little money.

In my freshman year in college, I received a refund check. The first thing I did was buy my school books, then I instantly used whatever money was left over to buy some affordable DJ equipment. It wasn’t much but it was enough for me to be effective at all my gigs.

Even to this day, I struggle at times with trying to balance working a job, running my own business, and still pursuing a career in music.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I love dogs. I started True Woods Kennels about two years ago. I aspire to be able to breed and train many different types of dogs one day. However, right now I’m solely focused on pit bulls.

They are one of the most family-oriented dog breeds out there despite their reputation. Many dog breeders look at the puppies as nothing more than an animal with a price tag. True Woods takes the opposite approach. We take care of our animals like we take care of family because they are family.

I aspire to start a nonprofit specifically designated for the preservation of Pitbulls who have been removed from homes for various reasons. I want to create a safe space for them where they can still live long and healthy lives.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I’ve always been an out-of-the-box thinker. I also always liked to help people in any way I can.

It’s never been hard for me to make friends or make people smile. Since I was born I’ve loved music and animals and continue to grow that love as an adult.

What l can I say, I am just so proud, and smiling showing all of my teeth, because this man is a part of me, because he is my first born grandson. Dijuan is a twin, and I have tears, because I always support him, and his Twin Darius. Dijuan is a gem, he is very smart, caring, intelligent, loving and the list goes on, but the most important thing is, he is so humble, and even through his struggles he stays humble, and pushes through. I love him with all I have. I say Congratulations to Dijuan🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
