Hi Ebria, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always been captivated by kinky and curly hair—its growth, maintenance, and the diverse styles it can take on. From a young age, I learned the basics: washing, flat ironing, sew-ins, crochets, and roller sets. My initial experiences were personal and familial, but soon friends and coworkers began asking me to style their hair, earning me the title of “kitchen stylist” throughout college. While I enjoyed this role, I stepped away after graduating to pursue a corporate career.

Midway through my corporate journey, I embarked on my personal Sisterlocks™️ journey and expressed to my loctician (Crissonya Phillips of DreamLocs by Crissy) my desire to re-enter the hair industry, focusing on natural hair rather than extensions. She planted the seed of entrepreneurship, and that conversation changed everything. A year later, I completed an extensive Sisterlocks™️ training and was eager to dive back in.

After five fulfilling years in the corporate world, I boldly decided to leave corporate in summer of 2023. I embraced a fresh start and took a leap of faith with the exciting opportunity to grow my own business. August 2023 marked the beginning of my journey. I’m grateful for the skills and experiences I gained during my corporate years, as they helped me become aware of the way I want to run my business and how to create a safe environment that is welcoming and inclusive for all professionals.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. In the beginning, when I was working part-time, my main challenges were related to time management. I had to juggle my corporate schedule while ensuring I provided exceptional services to my clients. Finding time to rest my body was also crucial during that phase.

Once I transitioned to full-time, the challenges became more financial, especially in managing clients who were inconsistent with their appointments. Life can be unpredictable, and I do my best to navigate those ups and downs. Lack of commitment for scheduled appointments is an ongoing matter. It feels similar to a 9-to-5 employee arriving on time only to be told they’ll be paid for fewer hours than worked. I aim to serve professionals who genuinely want my services, ensuring that opportunity is not taken away from others who might benefit from them. To mitigate this, I prioritize respectful and transparent communication with everyone I interact with, ensuring they know what to expect, minimizing surprises. It’s how I’ve learned to implement policies to help address these issues.

These are just a few of the obstacles I’ve faced, but overall, I’m grateful for the bumps in the road. They have shaped me into the businesswoman I am today.

Enamoured Locs is a welcoming and small salon that specializes in interlocking, focusing on mid-sized locs, microlocks, and Sisterlocks™️. We also provide shampooing and loc styling services. What makes us unique is our personalized approach; we prioritize the health and longevity of your hair, treating each loc as if it were our own. We want you to leave our chair “enamoured” with your hair.

We aim to create a safe and relaxing atmosphere where clients can receive our services without any hair-related worries. We provide a range of amenities to ensure your appointment is as comfortable as possible, including a dedicated lap desk for remote work in our salon, if needed.

Each year, we have the privilege of welcoming many new members into the Loc Community. We truly value the opportunity to care for the locs of those who continue to trust us on their journey, especially our long-time clients who have been with us from the very beginning. Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Our business launched after the pandemic, but we have always prioritized the health and safety of everyone who visits our salon. We do not offer services to anyone who is contagious or feeling unwell. We kindly ask that they wait for service until they are feeling better. Additionally, we take precautionary measures by regularly disinfecting frequently touched surfaces and offering masks if needed.
