Inspiring Conversations with Fab of Ace Mold Detection

Today we’d like to introduce you to Fab.

Hi Fab, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My wife Karen and I were looking for a business where we could work side by side — something meaningful that allowed us to help people while also reflecting our values and interests.
We’ve always been dog people. We have three fur babies of our own, two of them rescues, and for years we talked about finding a way to combine our love for dogs with work that truly makes an impact. When we discovered trained mold detection dogs, everything just clicked. The idea that a dog could locate hidden mold quickly and without tearing into walls felt like a smarter, less invasive approach — and it opened the door to building a business that could eventually give more rescue dogs purpose and meaningful work.
We searched for quite a while before finally finding Ace at a dog shelter in Kentucky, where we rescued her. From day one, she showed she was a working dog at heart — focused, driven, and happiest when she has a job to do.
That journey led us to train with the Florida Canine Academy, where Ace became a certified mold detection dog and we became certified handlers. Watching her grow into such a skilled working partner has been incredible. She’s not just part of the business — she’s truly part of our family and our mission. She absolutely loves getting in the car and can’t wait for her work week to start, which makes every inspection feel like a real team effort.
Today, our goal remains simple: help people get clarity and peace of mind without making the process stressful or invasive. What started as an idea has turned into something deeply personal — a business that blends our love for dogs with helping people protect their homes and health.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road — but honestly, that’s been part of what makes the journey so meaningful.
One of the biggest early challenges was building the connection between Ace and me as her handler. She went from the kennel straight into our home and was only with us for about three weeks before leaving for professional training. Then we didn’t see her again for four months until it was time for us to join her for handler training. That meant we were stepping into a working relationship that still needed to be built. It took time, patience, and consistency for us to really lock in — not just on a technical level, but on a personal one too — and for her to learn to trust me as her new partner. Looking back now, that bonding process was incredibly important and really shaped how we work together today.
Another challenge has been introducing people to something they may not have heard of before. K9 mold detection is still new to many homeowners and even some professionals, so a big part of our journey has been education — helping people understand how the process works and why a trained detection dog can be such an effective and non-invasive solution.
But those challenges have also been the most rewarding parts. Watching Ace grow into a confident working partner and seeing clients feel relief when they finally get clear answers makes all the effort worth it. Every step has been a learning experience, and while there have definitely been obstacles along the way, they’ve helped shape the business into what it is today — a family-run company built on trust, patience, and a genuine passion for helping people.

As you know, we’re big fans of Ace Mold Detection. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Ace Mold Detection is a family-run K9 mold inspection company specializing in non-invasive mold detection using a highly trained detection dog. Instead of immediately cutting into walls or relying on guesswork, Ace is trained to locate the scent of hidden mold quickly and accurately, helping clients understand where potential issues may exist before more invasive steps are taken.
What really sets us apart is the partnership between handler and dog. I personally handle the majority of inspections alongside Ace, which creates a consistent and highly focused working dynamic that clients can see in real time. K9 mold detection is still relatively unfamiliar to many homeowners, so part of our role is helping people understand how powerful and precise this approach can be when done correctly.
Education is a big part of what we do. We take time to explain the process, answer questions, and help clients feel comfortable and informed. Our goal isn’t to create fear or pressure — it’s to provide clarity so people can make confident decisions about their homes, health, or properties.
Brand-wise, what we’re most proud of is building something that feels genuine and purpose-driven. Ace Mold Detection blends professionalism with heart — a business rooted in our love for dogs, our commitment to helping people, and our belief that inspections can be effective without being invasive. Ace herself represents that mission perfectly. She’s a rescue dog who now helps families every day, and that story sits at the core of our brand.
At the end of the day, we want readers to know that our approach is about partnership — between handler and dog, and between us and our clients — focused on finding smarter, less invasive ways to uncover hidden problems and give people peace of mind.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
We’ve definitely had a lot of support along the way, and we’re incredibly grateful for the people who helped make this journey possible.
Bill Whitstine and the team at the Florida Canine Academy played a huge role in shaping both Ace and me as a working team. Their experience and guidance helped us understand not just the technical side of K9 detection, but also the importance of building trust, communication, and consistency between handler and dog. That foundation has been essential to how we operate today.
Of course, my wife Karen has been a constant supporter and partner throughout this entire process. Starting a new business comes with a lot of unknowns, and having someone who believes in the vision and helps keep things moving forward has made all the difference.
We’ve also been incredibly encouraged by our early clients and the local community. Many people took a chance on something new and trusted us early on, which gave us the confidence and momentum to grow. Wellness Doctors, Real estate professionals, homeowners, and industry connections who have referred us or shared our story have all played a meaningful role in helping Ace Mold Detection become what it is today.
