Today we’d like to introduce you to Frederico Tonete
Hi Frederico, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started getting serious in fitness when I was 7 years old and asked my parents to put me into martial arts and gymnastics so I could be a Power Ranger when I grew up. I stuck with Taekwondo for 26 years and after owning my own studio for the last 4 years of that time I wanted to move on. Orangetheory in Richmond, VA was my next stop. After a brief stint there I moved to Charleston and continued to work for Orangetheory. While in Charleston, another fitness brand kept catching my eye, so I set my goal on HYLO Fitness. There I worked with some of the best fitness trainers, yoga instructors, managers, and social media experts I have ever met. The owner really helped my career grow and allowed me to put on different hats and take on bigger roles. When I moved to Nashville I took a break, but fitness was screaming at me to come back. I fell in love with ISI Elite Training and the community there after I guest coached for a week. A year and a half later I love the team that we have created, the workouts are challenging and effect, but it’s the people that get me out of bed every morning!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been smooth, I don’t think anyone’s journey ever is. For me it’s been injuries a long they way that were really the hardest obstacles. Not physically, but mentally! It’s hard to come to a stop and listen to your body when all you have known is movement. As I have gotten older I am learning to do that more, and realize it’s ok to slow down to get to where you are going.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about ISI Elite Training?
ISI Elite Training is a workout designed for athletes, ex-athletes, and people who just want to train like an athlete. We love big heavy lifting days, focusing on form, and striving to make each rep one that builds us up. We are known for community and high fives, definitely expect high energy from the members and staff alike. What makes me proud to be apart of this brand is everyone is always striving for more, and being surround by like minded people in that way makes me move harder. I think gyms can be intimidating to a lot of people, ISI takes a little of that intimidation away. Our community has people figuring out what fitness is to them, super fit people that live and breathe fitness, and wiser people that have been around and are moving to make sure they continue to move for many more years.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Oh man this list is long! Mom and Dad, they worked hard my whole life to give us a better life then they had. Mr. and Mrs. Lacy, my Taekwondo instructors, they are like parents to me. Heidi and the whole Orangetheory team in Richmond, you set the foundation for the coach I am today. Shaun, Lauren, and Riley at Orangethoery Charleston you all worked tirelessly into take the raw talent I had and making it polished. Keith, Jerry, Brittany, Sam G., Sam L., and Kate at HYLO Fitness for being the best at their craft and giving me a higher bar to set my sights on. Taylor at HYLO Fitness for being the best support and teaching me how to lead. Angus at HYLO Fitness for letting me run with my wild ideas and color outside the box.
