Inspiring Conversations with Gary Levitt of Future Moments

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gary Levitt. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Future Moments was formed in 2015 by Gary Levitt and Wim De Nood. As a musician, recording engineer, and songwriter Gary Levitt released 5 records under the band name Setting Sun. When not working on Future Moments, he regularly writes and records his own songs in his recording studio.

From 2006 to 2011 I (Gary) toured regularly with my band Setting Sun, playing all over the USA and Europe several times. When not on the road I operated and ran a recording studio called Young Love Studio. Many of my original songs and studio clients ended up having our music placed on some TV shows, movies, and commercials.

As a longtime lover of audio, I had ideas for new mobile apps and after much hard searching found the perfect, partner, Wim De Nood, to bring my ideas to life. That’s when Future Moments was born.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It took a while for Future Moments to become profitable enough to live on. To make ends meet and be able to work on Future Moments, I would rent out my entire Brooklyn apartment on Air BnB and then go stay in cheaper rooms around the city making a profit and then spend days in cafes working on the company.

It was a bit like living out of a backpack for a few years, but it didn’t feel hard because it was not too dissimilar from being a touring musician. We started in 2015 and it wasn’t until maybe 2018 that it became profitable enough to support ourselves.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Comprised of musicians and engineers, we make top-notch mobile and desktop apps for content creation. Whether you’re a musician, filmmaker, podcaster, voiceover artist, or creative hobbyist, we have an app that’ll make your life easier and your productions better.

We’ve been written about in TechCrunch, Forbes, MacLife, Technical.ly Brooklyn, and more. So far, we’ve created MicSwap, MicSwap MultiTrack, AudioFix: For Videos, MicSwap Video, AudioMaster, VideoMaster, Hear Boost & VideoVerb.

MicSwap was the first microphone modeler to hit the iTunes App Store and currently has over 1 million downloads. The recently released AudioFix: for Videos and AudioMaster are broadly useful apps that immediately provide the final step in audio for podcasts, videos, voiceover, music, etc… Whatever content you’re creating, we have tools that easily improve your audio. See all of our apps here.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
There’s a quote that mentions something about luck and putting yourself in the way of luck. I feel I was very lucky to have met the right business partner, but I also put myself in the way of it by emailing around 200 Apple developers. So yes, I got lucky, but man I worked for it!
