Inspiring Conversations with Janine Le Clair of Music Row Voice

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janine Le Clair.

Hi Janine, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve been singing and acting since primary school, loved it since that early age and then started taking it quite seriously in high school. My first role was ‘Maria’ in Sound of Music. After three days of various auditions, I received scholarships to the one of a kind BFA Musical Theatre program in Canada (B.F.A. in Voice, Acting and Dance). During a trip overseas to Australia I was hired for various full time lead singer roles, so I stayed and made my home in Oz, where I opened up my first singing teacher company. I continued studies in music including being accepted to the College of Country Music in Tamworth, Australia. By this time, I had discovered my niche as an original artist was in country music, so I was traveling back and forth to Nashville, networking and songwriting. I gained national country music radio chart and touring success across the Land Down Under, which led me to publishing offers in Nashville. I decided to pursue those and set up camp in Music City. I secured a recording and publishing deal with an indie label on Music Row. Ironically it wasn’t in the plan to re ignite my vocal coaching here in the USA, but upon much encouragement and what appeared to be demand, Music Row Voice vocal coaching company, was born. Without any advertising it has sustained a full roster of 20+ clients per week for fifteen years so far. I’m blessed to help so many amazing artists with their craft, from all my years of experience.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s definitely not been a smooth road — but anything worth doing comes with bumps.

I’ve juggled careers in two countries, spending over $20K just to maintain U.S. work status. As an artist and songwriter, you’re your own business, which means constant paperwork, accounting, and late-night hustle. Being a woman in the country music industry has also meant navigating relationships where some people had ulterior motives.

Running Music Row Voice brings its own challenges: keeping teaching methods fresh, adapting to new ways of doing business, and managing an unpredictable schedule and revenue stream. But through it all, the passion keeps me moving forward.

So, my pursuits have had their share of challenges, but passion keeps me pushing forward every single day:)

As you know, we’re big fans of Music Row Voice . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
As a vocal coach, I bring more than scales and exercises to the table — I bring the real-world perspective of a performer, songwriter, and industry insider. I work with producers, labels, and artists in Nashville, and my experience as a published songwriter means I understand the business from the inside out. That insight allows me to offer not just vocal training, but emotional support for artists navigating the rollercoaster that is the entertainment industry.

I’m also deeply empathetic — I connect with my clients quickly, breaking down emotional walls so we can address what’s really holding them back. More often than not, vocal blocks are rooted in emotion or energy, not just technique, and my intuition helps uncover and release them.

My coaching style is as unique as my clients — no two lessons are ever the same. There’s no cookie-cutter “method.” Every session is tailor-made, whether we’re preparing for a studio date, tour, or live TV spot, or focusing on technique, songwriting, or even a first karaoke performance. Whatever the goal, I combine technical mastery, vocal care, and real-world preparation so each artist leaves stronger and more confident.

At Music Row Voice, my philosophy is simple: Connection, not perfection. It’s about forging a genuine link with the audience — the kind that leaves a lasting impression.

I’m a multi-instrumentalist and a professional member of The Recording Academy, CMA, and ACM, known for connecting students with others in the industry. MRV also offers in-studio coaching, producer/engineer interpretation, music theory, sight-singing, voice healing, acting lessons, and performance coaching.

My virtual lessons are as powerful as in-person, and I’m especially proud of the ‘Music City Experience’ — a one-of-a-kind “artist boot camp” that offers a day in the life of a Nashville artist for those traveling in from out of town. No other vocal coach in Nashville offers anything like it.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I believe in taking risks. I certainly haven’t taken all the risks that came across my lap, but I took some.

It was a risk as an artist, with a record and pub deal, to simultaneously open a vocal coaching company. Coaching fellow label artists was an even greater leap; I had to earn their trust so they’d feel safe enough to show me their weaknesses without feeling threatened.

But the greatest risk of my life? Leaving Australia — along with my fiancé and family at the time, my friends, my career, and everything familiar — for nothing more than a chance in Nashville, Tennessee. When I arrived, I had a connection with only one person.
