Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaylene Hall.
Hi Jaylene, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
After college graduation, I was planning to join the music industry with hopes of landing a marketing job at one of the record labels. As graduation approached, the pandemic hit and I was left graduating with a crashing economy and a music business shut down. Devastation was at its highest, and I was left unsure with what to do. I had two options: to go home or to make it work. I decided to tough through it, and after forcing myself to heal from some traumatic things that happened in 2020, I needed something that was going to uplift me. I had started modeling in Nashville shortly before graduation and jobs seemed to have fallen in my lap. It wasn’t always that easy though before I became signed to a modeling agency in Nashville, I faced many pitfalls of confusion as to where to start. I had no idea how to build a portfolio or submit to agencies, so I did the heavy research. I came to the conclusion that many models were also in this same boat, “how and where do I start?” I then decided in the fall of 2020 to create “Model Positive,” a website that allows models to search for model training, photographers, reputable agencies, and now we’ve added model scouting. I called it Model Positive because I needed something positive in my life at the time and my start-up company was something that I felt called to do. In a short half a year, we’ve been continuing to grow to the point where we are reaching not only models in Nashville, but Miami, California, Chicago, and more! I grew Model Positive to the point it’s at today by dedicating my time each day to help a model on their path to getting signed. My goal is to be able to inspire models to achieve their goals within the industry.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has never been a smooth road. Being an entrepreneur of a start-up means that there is no days off, especially if you’re a one person company starting out. Owning my own start-up has taught me how to understand time management, the effect of budgeting for ads, the push and grind of keeping things up and running, as well as having to keep myself motivated when times are tough. With any start-up company, you don’t see a lot of income right away. It takes time to grow and expand, and it’s all about having patience. I always tell myself, “If my business improves at least 1% everyday by something I or my team does, then I’m doing something right.”
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Model Positive?
Model Positive is a website and LLC that offer model training services, options to book photographers and fitness trainers, as well as giving models an option to speak to model scouts on how to get signed to agencies. Model Positive is set apart from others because most model scouts aren’t very accessible to the public. It’s hard for models to get help and guide in the right direction while trying to avoid scams. The Model Positive team does heavy research on every agency before submitting the models to the agency or training staff to best avoid scams. I’m most proud of our brand by making it a mission to help others in the industry. It’s important that models have a website and scout they can turn to for questions and advice.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Through my modeling stages and the early and current stages of Model Positive: I’d like to thank Rollson C. for being one of the first models to hop on board with Model Positive and helping it grow by being our first team trainer! I’d also like to thank Brand Jackson for all of the studio time he’s put in for the training sessions and workshops, his photographs have been stunning! As well as Lorenzo Huerta who’s helped me brainstorm ideas and doing amazing photography for the newsletters and media content. My family has also been a big support system, always cheering me on and believing in my work ethic. My father has been one of my best mentors, after owning his own business for close to 23 years – he’s answered any questions I’ve had on business-related ideas and the motivation to take risks for success.
