Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessie Neumaier
Hi Jessie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always struggled knowing what I wanted to do as a career. I’ve also always struggled with school and still do. Right after I graduated high school, I went to the University of Tennessee Chattanooga, and I didn’t have the college experience most people have. I had a really hard time dealing with roommate issues, being away from my family, and just really struggled mentally. Because I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life and my career, I felt like college was pointless, so I decided not to go back and transferred to community college. That’s when I started photography. I’ve always known I wanted to do something creative as a career, but didn’t know what. I always felt that I wasn’t good enough to be an artist, so I always steered away from any creative career paths. But then I shifted my mindset; being too scared to do something I want isn’t reason enough to not pursue it. So, I went for it. I’m only about two years in and since then, I have gotten a job as an assistant at Spoiled Rotten Photography, I’ve booked clients, I’ve built my social media platform, and I’ve gotten the chance to share my story with this interview! I’m so excited to see what the future holds for me and my career!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I’ve definitely had some struggles along the way. Mentally, I’ve struggled with not knowing if I’m doing what I’m called to do. I’ve doubted myself a lot. It’s hard because I have had to take risks and will continue to do so without really knowing if it will work out in the end. When I first decided I wanted to pursue photography, I transferred to community college and left my college town. I left behind my friends so that I could have more opportunities to build my brand/business. It’s hard because most of my friends are away at college, getting degrees and building their careers that way. It’s hard to know if you’re on the right path when you’re doing something not everybody else is doing. And it can be hard not to compare myself to others. However, the thought of never pursuing something I am passionate about scares me even more than actually doing it.
As you know, we’re big fans of Bessie’s Point of View. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
My business is Bessie’s Point of View. I am a photographer in Nashville, TN, and surrounding areas. I specialize in portrait and landscape photography. However, I am open to trying all types of photography in the future. I would say that my authenticity sets me apart from others. I’m not trying to be something that I’m not, and I stay true to myself. Another thing that sets me apart is making my clients feel comfortable and heard during and after sessions. Lots of people dread getting their pictures taken, and I want to make it as easy and fun as possible for my clients. I also make sure to ask my clients what style pictures they are going for so that I can execute their session accordingly, while still implementing my style. Brand-wise, I am simply proud of how far I have come. If I had told my two-year-ago self that I was actually chasing my dream and making a name for myself, I would’ve laughed in my own face. I want people to know that when you work with me, I will give our session my all so that you are happy with the outcome. These pictures aren’t only mine, they’re also yours, and I will do everything in my power to make you feel comfortable, satisfied, and proud of your pictures.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
