Inspiring Conversations with Kelly Donovan of Faith + Wildflowers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Donovan.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Faith and Wildflowers began from my own journey in sobriety and a deep desire to help women feel seen, valued, and dignified during some of life’s most vulnerable moments. What started as a grassroots effort serving women living in tents and encampments along the river in Nashville has grown into a thriving nonprofit organization serving more than 1,000 women through clothing, outreach, recovery support, workforce development, and housing initiatives.

In the beginning, we had one bus, drove down dirt roads, and sorted and stored clothing in a garage through rainy nights and cold mornings. From those humble beginnings, Faith and Wildflowers has grown to include two buses, a career closet, and a new home for women with six housing beds. Today, we partner with organizations such as the Nashville Rescue Mission, the Salvation Army, treatment facilities, and many other groups serving women in crisis. Our work now reaches women across more than 10 community locations and is supported by over 100 dedicated volunteers.

What began as one woman’s healing journey has become a growing movement to restore dignity, hope, and opportunity for women who need to know they are not forgotten.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. As a young organization experiencing rapid growth, one of our greatest challenges has been meeting increasing needs with limited resources. We are constantly balancing the demand for our programs with the funding, staffing, and infrastructure required to sustain them.

At the same time, these challenges have reinforced the importance of our mission. They have pushed us to be resourceful, build strong community partnerships, and remain focused on creating lasting opportunities for the women we serve.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Faith + Wildflowers is a nonprofit organization serving women across Middle Tennessee through outreach, workforce development, and transitional housing programs. We are known for creating meaningful connections and removing barriers that often prevent women from moving forward.

What sets us apart is our ability to meet women where they are while building trust through consistent support and community. We work closely with local partners to ensure women have access to resources, opportunities, and encouragement at every stage of their journey.

I am most proud of the community that has formed around this mission. What began as a small grassroots effort has grown into a network of volunteers, partners, and supporters who believe every woman deserves to be treated with dignity and compassion and given the opportunity to thrive.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
It would have to be singing and dancing in full costumes to old Broadway musicals that were on records with my sister. We would get all dressed up in old bridesmaids dresses and random trinket jewelry and put on full-blown musicals in the living room while we sang and danced and just laughed!
