Today we’d like to introduce you to Krista Davis.
Hi Krista, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I’ve been a creative person since age 9. I modeled my Grandmothers ability to create. I started making my own clothes at the age of 11 by hand. My Mother saw the drive and determination so she purchased my first sewing machine at Sears Robucks…. lol. My next goal at 13 was to master being a hairstylist, although too young to attend school I watched my Aunt and cousin until I felt comfortable enough to do my Sisters hair. After I mastered cutting, coloring, and the infamous press and curl I set out to challenge my skills. At my Grandmothers house, the ay came, when she received a call from her stylist… she was sick, I quickly replied “ I can do it! To my surprise she answered with much confidence OK… my Grandmother was a lady with great pride in her appearance, walking in Church was her runway.
Needless to say, after I finished… burnt marks and fish hook curls all over her head she looked in the mirror and said BEAUTIFUL, my Aunt and Sisters snickering in the background, just BEAUTIFUL. I felt like I had conquered the world.
In Church the next day she quickly replied to the answer “Who did your hair” proudly my Granddaughter, that was the start of a career path of beauty… hair, clothing, houses, etc. I’m now the proud owner of SerenitySuitesSalonSpa and I launched my clothing line KrisTa Kollection in 2011. Also, in 2011 I was given a vision (Elegant Ladies Foundation) from God to use my gifts to support young ladies’ transition from high school to college with scholarships. Thus far we (the Elegant Ladies Foundation) have supported 14 young ladies. We are currently preparing to have our 10th Annual Fashion Show, on October 9th with the focus not only on scholarship fundraising but Breast Cancer Awareness.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There were a lot of challenges… coming from a single-parent household I was determined to make a difference, not just in my life but also in my siblings and friends.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
SerenitySuitesSalonSpa is a professional environment offering services from hair to Yoni steam. I lease out suites to individuals in the beauty industry.
Clients can come in and get their hair, and nails done, visit a skin care professional, get a body sculpt treatment. I’m a member of Iota Phi Lambda Sorority ( a business Sorority) and I was selected in the 2023 class of Wilson Leadership.
What matters most to you? Why?
Creating something beautiful… hair, design, and personality. Making someone’s day just by enhancing the beauty they were born with and being that positive ear that so many women need. I absolutely love making someone’s bad day into a good day… those were the things I missed or took for granted growing up.
Loving the community work… being that role model for young ladies to forever cherish. Teaching young ladies the basic things in life, instilling in them their worth to the world.
