Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Johnson.
Hi Lauren, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’m Lauren Johnson, the founder and owner of Choose Joy Nursing. I was born and raised right here in Nashville. My husband, Wilson, is also a Nashville native. We live in Charlotte Park with our rescue dog, Elsa.
I graduated from Ensworth High School and went on to study nursing at Lipscomb University!
This city has always been home, and it means the world to serve families in the place that I grew up.
My journey into motherhood and into founding Choose Joy Nursing are deeply intertwined. I’ve always been passionate about caring for others, and after becoming a nurse, I saw just how much support new moms truly need.
I started Choose Joy Nursing in 2021 to offer in-home postpartum support and postsurgical support that helps you feel seen, safe, and cared for. Our goal is to provide thoughtful, personalized care to help you rest, recover, and feel confident in your role as a mother. Whether you’re healing from birth, adjusting to life with a newborn, or recovering from surgery, we’re here to support you every step of the way.
On July 6, 2024, I welcomed my first baby, a beautiful daughter who changed everything for me.
She was born with CTLN1, a condition where she could not break down protein. Lily Ann went home on hospice and palliative care after 4 weeks in the NICU and lived a beautiful and happy 9 months with us this side of Heaven.
Lily Ann went to be with Jesus on April 6, 2025. Losing her has become the deepest part of my story. It reshaped my entire world, and it deepened my calling. Through grief, I’ve found a renewed purpose – to walk with mothers in their most vulnerable seasons, to hold space for both joy and heartbreak, and to serve with tenderness and truth. This work is personal, and it’s sacred. I’m grateful for each and every family that allows Choose Joy Nursing to come into their home and serve in such a special way.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it has not been a smooth road at all. Running a business while grieving the loss of my own child has been very challenging to say the least. I celebrate and love on mamas with healthy newborns. It’s a huge blessing, but it can also be heavy. My administrative team and nurses at Choose Joy Nursing have been incredible by praying for me and helping with every single aspect of the business so I could rest and grieve. The Lord has been so near and so kind to help me continue to celebrate others despite my circumstances! I’m honored to be able to tell Lily Ann’s story and support my team of nurses until my time comes to be with Lily Ann and Jesus in Heaven. I’m counting down the days, but in the meantime, I’m just trying to love people well.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Choose Joy Nursing?
At Choose Joy Nursing, we’re honored to support families during some of the most meaningful, and often overwhelming, moments of early parenthood.
We specialize in newborn and postpartum care, in-home lactation support, and post-surgical care (Choose Joy Concierge Nursing). Our team of highly trained nurses and care partners provide expert, compassionate care tailored to each family’s unique needs.
What sets us apart is our deeply personal approach. We combine clinical excellence with a calming, joy-filled presence that brings comfort and confidence to the families we serve. Whether it’s helping with breastfeeding, easing the transition home with a newborn, supporting comfort and outcomes through post-operative care, or simply being a steady hand during a sleepless night, we’re there – in your home, by your side.
We’re most proud of building a brand that families trust, not just for our knowledge, but for the warmth and intentionality behind everything we do.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
The people are the best!! I love the small town feel even in such a big city. I run into people I know everywhere I go!
The least? Traffic! It makes me late and can be so frustrating. It used to take 10 minutes to get places, and now it feels like 20+ minutes no matter where I go!
