Inspiring Conversations with Madeleine Wyatt of Wyatt Design Build

Today we’d like to introduce you to Madeleine Wyatt.

Madeleine Wyatt

Hi Madeleine, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Growing up in an artist household, my life was always full of projects and creativity. My father a handbag designer, and my mother an artist and teacher. I didn’t realize it then, but growing up this way was a gift—it made me look at things differently and ultimately made “home” my canvas.

After graduating from Middle Tennessee State University with my BS in Interior Design in 2010, I worked for an interior designer in Brentwood before collaborating with a Nashville investor. After my son was born, I realized stay-at-home mom life was not for me. I began managing construction projects for that same investor, and I got to bring my son with me which was incredibly special. Motherhood changes you in so many ways and having him by my side while I built my career is something I would have never expected us to be able to share.

In 2014, I received my contractor’s license and became a full-time general contractor and designer. It was an incredible education learning to rezone properties and having a front-row seat to Nashville’s reshaping. After two years of investor-heavy work, I needed to feel more passion and create positive change for people. In 2015, Wyatt Design Build was born, focusing heavily on historic , additions, custom builds and renovations for homeowners.

Being given the opportunity to build someone’s dream and the the ability to create “home” is something I will never take for granted.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Nothing about the road has been smooth, definitely more like off-roading but it has been incredibly rewarding. I’ve always described my career as being a professional problem solver and with that comes with huge obstacles. However, just like anything the more that you find creative solutions for what sometimes can feel like the impossible the more confident you become. The key is to keep going because you are stronger than you think you are. Mindset is everything!

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are a family owned boutique design-build firm specializing in historic additions, custom home builds, renovations and small commercial build outs. Being able to design specific to our client without the need for approval from the masses sets us free to make every single space catered to our clients needs, aesthetic and personality. The process is incredibly fun, the results are so special and you can feel the love when you walk in the door.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?

The building industry is always shifting, and Nashville has moved from fast-paced “tall skinnies” to more thoughtful builds. Instead of selling and moving homeowners are choosing to give their current homes the upgrades they desire. As Nashville continues to grow the ability to move affordably is becoming more and more problematic.
Over the next 5-10 years I can see the renovation trend continuing whether to add value personally or for resale. At Wyatt Design Build we LOVE a good renovation and are excited to be able to help these family’s bring new life into their spaces.
