Inspiring Conversations with Marcela of Lice Is Easy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcela.

Hi Marcela, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
About 20 years ago, my oldest son went to a sleepover and brought home an unexpected party favor: head lice. Not long after, my youngest son and I joined the club—itchy, panicked, and very uninvited. I’d never had lice before. Growing up in Mexico City, I went to a Catholic school where the nuns kept our hair braided tight and glued down with gel, like little helmeted warriors against infestation. It worked—until it didn’t.

It took me three miserable weeks to get rid of it, and honestly, I was more frazzled than a flat iron at full heat.

But as with many disasters, there was a silver lining hiding in the scratching. I was a trained hairstylist, but I had put that on pause to shuttle my son around the state for his traveling soccer team—practices during the week, tournaments every weekend. Then I saw a listing for a lice technician job with flexible hours. Perfect, right?

Well… not quite. The methods were outdated, slow, and mind-numbing. So I quit. Luckily, I met another woman who had been working in the field and was starting her own business. We joined forces, and together we created a technique that was fast, effective, and actually affordable. (Imagine that!)

Back then, my kids were still little, so launching a full-on business wasn’t in the cards just yet. But fast-forward to five years ago—COVID hit, we moved to Nashville, and with my boys grown up, I finally had the time and energy to build something meaningful. I wanted to help other families facing the same itchy nightmare—and create flexible, empowering job opportunities for women like me.

Today, I’ve opened three lice treatment centers in Tennessee: Nashville, Brentwood, and Chattanooga. The most rewarding part? Helping families through a surprisingly emotional crisis—and giving women a chance to do meaningful, family-friendly work that truly makes a difference.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We operate like a 911 service—clients expect immediate help for their lice “emergencies,” so we’re truly 24/7, which is no small feat.
