Inspiring Conversations with Mark Epps II of Epps Public Strategies

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark Epps II

Hi Mark, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in Flint, MI. Growing up in Flint to a working class family taught me the value of education and hard work. I have great admiration for my grandparents, I spent a lot of time with them and they instilled values that I still carry today. 3/4 of my grandparents worked for General Motors and my paternal grandmother was a principal (You can see where the hard work and education narrative comes from). I came to Nashville to attend Tennessee State University, graduated in 2008 in the middle of the great recession. I started my company in 2019, before starting my company I worked in Non Profit for nearly 5 years working with disadvantaged youth, helping them achieve education credentials and gaining employment. I worked in politics with the Tennessee Democratic Party working in fundraising. I also earned a Masters Degree in Civic Leadership from Lipscomb University while working in Non Profit and TNDP. And my last job was with BNA in the Business Diversity Development Office working with Small, Minority and Women Owned Businesses. This is where I had a front row seat in Entrepreneurship and contracting. I am married to my college sweetheart Netra and we have 1 daughter Madison.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I probably would have never started my company at the time that I did if I knew Covid-19 was going to happen the following year. Trying to grow a business in the middle of a pandemic was very challenging. Nevertheless, I’m still standing and thriving by the grace of God.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
