Matt, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I used to be a cardiology nurse practitioner in Nashville, TN. My male patients were asking me if testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) would affect their heart conditions. I did not have a great knowledge of men’s health or hormone replacement. So I increased my knowledge by taking a men’s health continuing medical education (CME) course. On the first slide it listed the symptoms of low testosterone, low mood, anxiety/depression, less motivation, inability to concentrate, brain fog, low stamina, failure to make gains in the gym, stubborn belly fat, and low libido. As I read this list, the whole way down, I was thinking check, check, check….except for the last one on the list, I had every dang symptom of low T. My first thought was crap, I have low T! After getting tested my total T for a 41 year old was in the toilet at 245. Keep in mind that optimized is 800-1300. With my personal first provider, it was a national tele-health brand with a fake zoom back drop and all. She was nice and got me started on my TRT journey and the amazing difference TRT made in my life was undeniable. Yet, when problems arose, I taught her how to treat me. Granted the problems were for mild stuff like increased hematocrit, but I had researched and learned by increasing dosing frequency from 2 times a week to 3 times we can mitigate the increase. That is when I knew that I needed to start my own local clinic with competitive pricing and bring my knowledge to as many men and women as possible. That is how Spartan Elite was born. Prior to being a nurse practitioner I was a registered nurse in the cardiovascular ICU for almost 7 years.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Being an entrepreneur is always a tough road. When running a business, your mind thinks about little else. The startup phase is always the hardest part of any business launch. Business always starts slower than you think, but it does eventually pick up steam.
