Inspiring Conversations with Maxine Henderson of The Lavish Business Experience, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maxine Henderson

Hi Maxine, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Absolutely! My journey started with a genuine desire to help people turn their ideas into sustainable, impactful businesses. I’ve always been passionate about problem-solving and finding resources, so naturally, I found myself gravitating toward grant writing and business development.

I officially launched The Lavish Business Experience after seeing firsthand how many entrepreneurs and nonprofit leaders had powerful visions but lacked the funding, structure, or support to bring them to life. What started as one-on-one support has now grown into programs, digital tools, and workshops that help people create fundable, recession-proof businesses.

In just the last year, I’ve coached hundreds of entrepreneurs through the process of developing fundable businesses, helped clients win over $3 million in grant funding, and successfully partnered more than 10 businesses with investors and lenders to secure funding for their projects.

Today, I’m proud to be known as The Funding Plug because when people come to me, they leave with real strategies, real results, and real money in their hands to grow their mission. My path hasn’t been perfect, but it’s been purpose-filled. I stay rooted in my “why” helping others build legacy, freedom, and financial stability through business.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not a smooth road but every bump taught me something valuable. When I first started, I had to wear all the hats marketing, admin, service delivery…….you name it. I was building a business while also learning how to balance life, faith, and finances. There were moments when I doubted myself, especially when I didn’t see immediate results. But I stayed committed.

One of the biggest challenges was educating clients on the importance of being “funding ready.” A lot of people think money solves everything, but I had to teach them that structure, systems, and strategy come first. I also had to learn how to navigate being underpaid for high-value services in the beginning, just to build trust and get my foot in the door.

On a more personal level, I’ve had to push through grief and ongoing health issues due to chronic asthma symptoms. I battled Covid three times, and each time took a toll on my body and my energy but I refused to give up. Some days, just showing up was a win. But I kept going because I knew my purpose was bigger than the pain.

Every challenge positioned me to refine my process, set boundaries, and grow a business that’s rooted in purpose and impact. I don’t regret any part of the journey it built my resilience and made me a better coach, consultant, and woman overall.

I live by the mindset that “purpose will always outlast pain.” And as long as I keep walking in purpose, everything I need will align in divine timing.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The Lavish Business Experience is more than a consulting agency it’s a movement designed to help entrepreneurs and nonprofit leaders secure the funding they need to grow, scale, and serve with purpose. We specialize in grant writing, business development, and funding strategy. I’m known as The Funding Plug because I connect my clients with real opportunities from grants and government contracts to investors and business credit.

What sets us apart is our focus on helping you become truly “fundable.” We don’t just write grants, we build your entire foundation. That means business plans, financials, funding readiness assessments, and a clear strategy to make sure when money shows up, you’re ready to receive it. We also offer digital products, group programs, and high-touch consulting to meet clients where they are whether you’re just starting or scaling past six figures.

In the last year alone, I’ve helped my clients win over $3 million in grant funding, coached hundreds of entrepreneurs into creating fundable businesses, and secured funding partnerships for more than 10 businesses through lenders and investors. That’s the kind of impact I’m most proud of because it proves that we’re not just talking about success, we’re creating it.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud of how authentic and empowering our messaging is. We make business and funding feel accessible, not intimidating. Everything we do is rooted in education, elevation, and execution.

I want your readers to know that if they’re ready to take their business or nonprofit seriously, I have a roadmap for them. Whether it’s through our Funding Accelerator Program (coming soon), a 1-on-1 consultation, or joining my Empowerment community we provide the tools, support, and strategy to get you funded and positioned for legacy.

What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is impact. I’m passionate about helping people build something that lasts whether it’s a business, a nonprofit, or a legacy for their family. It’s not just about making money it’s about creating freedom, purpose, and generational change.

I care deeply about seeing Black and Brown entrepreneurs and nonprofit leaders win in spaces they’ve historically been locked out of especially when it comes to funding. I want my clients to know they don’t have to bootstrap forever, and they don’t have to shrink their vision to match their resources. What matters most is helping them see what’s possible, and then giving them the tools to go after it.

Faith and family are the foundation of everything I do. My faith keeps me grounded and reminds me that I’m walking in divine purpose even when the road is hard. And my family is my why they’re the reason I keep pushing, even on days when I feel like giving up. Their love and support fuel me to show up and serve others at the highest level.

That’s why I do this work. Because when one person gets funded, they hire others. They launch programs. They support their community. It creates a domino effect and that’s what makes all the late nights, setbacks, and sacrifices worth it.
